PostSubject: Me, a female Rocky?????   Thu 01 Nov 2007, 9:57 pm

Does anyone remember the first Rocky movie where he gradually and painfully gets himself in shape by climbing alllll those outdoor steps in Philly and finally is able to run up them and jump around with joy at the top- I know-- a bit corny but a little over a month ago I knew I was ready to start a regular exercise routine and wanted to use power walking because it worked for me before but I still have a challenge with unexplained foot pain so I found myself enjoying the long fast walks until I got home and then could hardly walk for the rest of the day Sad . Then I had one of those 'duh' moments and realized that I had the perfect workout 'track' just outside my door- a very long (about 6 blocks). and steep hill- so now I walk as fast as I can down the hill and then cross the road and try to walk just as fast UP the hill and then repeat it. It takes about 20 minutes and gives me a great cardio workout and I have to brag - I am getting very muscular legs Cool Yo Rocky bounce

Good onya spirit!!!
Nothing like a good workout for energizing you.

I've just started back to work after a month's break (doing nothing) and, boy, do the muscles in my backside and fronts of my thighs hurt from stepping up and down on a step stool SEVERAL times each shift. Razz
Just goes to show that it doesn't take long to get 'out' of shape Shocked

As they say...No Pain, No Gain! Rolling Eyes

Thanks for the support ladies - I really have to say that this hill walking routine has given me the fastest benefits of anything I have tried before - and the 20 minutes is easily found. I plan to find some light hand weights to carry with me to help to trim my arms and upper body and of course make me work a little harder on the up-hill parts.....

You know you could carry a sack of potatoes in each hand. Laughing
That would get fast results and major muscles. laugh

Hmmmm......sacks of potatoes....not a bad idea Skin, except did I mention that this hill is verrrry steep?? I can just see myself getting ahead of my feet on the down hill part and rolling all the way down....maybe a new way of mashing potatoes, huh Shocked Oh I must also say that from this hill walking I now have a much smaller butt Cool My husband approves Embarassed
