| I recently spent alot of time with a person who has a really low self image. She is kind, intelligent and attractive, however, at times it was exhuasting to be with her. Self doubt clouds her ability to see herself achieving future goals. When she is complimented she dismisses the compliment and often says something negative about herself. It really brought home to me my Aunt's lesson on being polite. Always acknowledge a compliment with a thank you, as it is a gift, and denying the compliment is like returning a gift to the giver.
I'm not where I want to be physically, spirtually and in some other ways, however, thinking positively will be more likely to get me to my goals than thinking negatively.
You ladies, are soo good about being possitive, thank you ! I logged on alot more last week than normal for the possitive attitude. _________________ Dear Lord, help me remember how lucky I am on both the good and the bad days! |

| Teri, I agree with you. It is draining to be around those with a low self-image and/or pessimists. It can turn my mood pretty quickly. But, I must admit, I have some REALLY low days at times. I need to keep what your Aunt said in mind when I'm having a bad day, and try not to bring down anyone else.

| | Teri, I must agree with you, it is taxing to be around people like that. but more so it's sad that one would think so little of themselves, ya know! What would make someone think that nothing is good about them? It is heartbreaking! |

| | It's taken me years to have a better self-image of myself. My self-esteem hit the skids about 3 1/2 years ago. It's been a slow process, but I'm doing it. Like the rest of you, I have my down times, but it doesn't last like it used to. Looking back, a negative personality is an addiction. It's so easy to keep it. So hard to stop it. |

| Thank you for sharing this Teri. I'm sure many of us have highs and lows. Some people with low self esteem have probably had bad experiences which may be hard to move on from. I think it's important to offer support, understanding and kindness but I also understand how it can prove frustrating. You're a good friend. _________________ ~ By sowing frugality we reap liberty, a golden harvest. --Agesilaus ~ |

| I am guilty on this one. I have a very bad self image. Growing up I was either too heavy or too skinny, hair too short or too long,. It didn't matter I wasn't good enough. I still struggle with it today. I am really trying though to get over this. _________________ Vicki

| I too have really struggled with feeling bad about myself for years, and it did come about from some very bad experiences. I do try to accept compliments graciously though, because they seem as precious as rare jewels to me. _________________ MARY |

| | We are human and with that comes faults, fallibility and times when we just can't pull ourselves together. But, we are all beautiful people more times than not. We need to focus on the positive side of our personalities. It has taken me a long time to understand why people like me and want to be around me. I never realized how much my presence meant to people. I never realized that I am missed when I'm not around. Like some of you, all the negativity came from bad experiences, rejection and not having the support I needed. |

| What an important topic to think about....I spent 28 years in my first marriage with a low self esteem without realizing I did not have to be this way....my marriage was not abusive but it certainly was not positive...my ex liked to give what he considered 'constructive' criticism....my butt was 'saggy'....my posture made me look like I had a 'dowager's hump'....etc...this was certainly not conducive to feeling good about myself Now I have someone who envelopes me in love and positive feelings...not that it is necessary to have someone else to validate yourself, but it helps.... _________________ Love is a fruit, in season at all times and within the reach of every hand. | | It sure does help! My hubby loves no matter what size I am or how my hair looks...he even loved me when I was the size of a football field (pregnant)! |
