| I can't even remember if I mentioned to all that my 13yo son was having an irregular heart beat and we were going to have him ck'd out...Well, we found out on Jan. 31st that JonReid has a heart defect caused by a birth defect. The middle of Dec. he told me..."Mom, this might just be puberty but my heart beats real fast for a few minutes and when it slows down it kind of feels like it does when you hit your crazy bone!" I immediately made an appt. and the dr. did an EKG and it showed an irregularity and sent us to a ped. cardiologist. He did an Echo gram that showed a small hole and the right side of his heart was somewhat enlarged We thought the hole could be repaired easily with a plug but they did a catherization and discovered lots worse. Three of his valves are in the wrong place and they couldn't see the 4th to tell about it. It caused his right side of his heart to be enlarged, blood is recycling in the wrong parts of his body, the blood going to the veins of his right lung is too intense, AND there is a hole in his heart. The dr. said if it wasn't corrected that by his 20's he would start with congestive heart failure and lose 20 to 30 yrs. of his life. We opted for Spring break because he will be in ICU 3 to 5 days, in the hospital 7 to 10 days and then once home he will have a 2 to 3 wk. recuperation period. The dr. said it would also be best then instead of summer because the other boys would be attending school and wouldn't "tempt" him to want to be outside or do other things. This has just put me totally in a state of shock. JonReid is so very intellengent...tests 12.9 (twelth grade 9th month) in Reading, on the Supt. honor roll, Academic Team, Band, Science Honors, Basketball, Fellowship for Christian Atheletes, etc. BUT MOST OF ALL .... he is my son...my gift from God... Of course, this brings up heartache from the past. I just can't go through any of that again!! Why must this happen? What am I doing wrong that God has to "test" me....again! Anyway, I am asking for prayers and to pass it on to all you know. Hopefully, God will see that all love him and make everything go smoothly. We go to the Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City on the 16th to ck him in and they will do all pre-op then and admit him and then he is to have the surgery at 8am on the 17th. The surgery is to last anywhere from 2 to 6 hrs. depending on the time needed to correct things and there will be two surgeons doing the operation. He will be on a heart/lung ventilator during the time and 1 to 5 days afterwards. The dr. said the biggest risks would be a stroke from a blood clot once the heart starts working again on its own and internal bleeding. I have been working as much as possible and our little community has been so wonderful. There have been fund raisers of so many kinds that it is amazing. Ya know though...I don't care how much it cost!!...no amount of money can take the place of a child and I can honestly say I know that. I told Dennis I would sell everything we have and my soul if God would just help JonReid successful make it through this. The waiting is about to kill me. I haven't been able to sleep and my system is so run down that I have caught about everything there is to catch. The Dr. finally gave me so sleeping tablets and told me I HAD to take care of myself because JonReid would definately need me after surgery. I am so sorry to rattle on after so long. I just need you to put JonReid on your pray list and keep him in your thoughts!! Thanks for listening! Debby _________________ DEBBY/OK

| Oh Debby, I'm so sorry for all your worry and care. I will certainly add your son to my prayers. Please follow your doctors instructions and take care of yourself, if for no other reason than JonReid needs his Mom so much right now. I've been finding that when I'm trying to sleep if I keep reciting prayers over and over again in my head it seems to shut my mind down from the crazy circles of worry and of course the prayers will also help JonReid. Thank God you and JonReid are so close that he could tell you about his heart, he is certainly very smart. I'll also be praying for the doctors, so God will guide their hands and minds as they treat JonReid. _________________ Dear Lord, help me remember how lucky I am on both the good and the bad days! |

| Just want to thank all for your thoughtfulness and prayers. He missed church today due to a sinus infection, ear infection, and cough. Thank heaven we got into the dr. Friday after school so he is on meds. Here our weather is cold one day and the next warm. Our little school is full of both kinds of virus. We had so many teachers out last week that they couldn't find subs and we combined a few of the elementary classes to finish the day out. I think everyone is ready for spring. HA Know I love each and every one of you!! _________________ DEBBY/OK

| Debby, I am praying for you and your ds. Count it as a blessing your son was wise enough to listen and know his body at such an early age to know something was wrong so you can get it corrected now. May God bless you and your family. _________________ [url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/]
