The first year we owned our home I sold some stock and had a home business that needed to take a loss etc. so we hired an accountant and have used him every year since.

Last year, I was able to file my taxes online for free because I didnt make too much money.

This year, may be a different story. Hopefully not though.

We use a tax accountant whose bill is tax deductable the following year. We looked at doing our own one year but the forms were incredibly complicated (and thick!) and I didn't want to overlook anything. They offer courses here every year to train people as tax accountants!

we use a very nice CPA. He's wonderful. Honest,organized,etc. So glad we found him(through referral,of course!Wink )
When we didn't own a house, we did them ourselves for years. But then decided to be more "safe" with a professional when we bought the house.
