| | For me,,the thrifty way is to plan based on whats in the panrty and then whats on sale in the ads,,kinda goes hand in hand. |

| I have a very basic menu that I set up recently(ex. chicken day, ground meat day, meatless day, etc.). Then I check to see what I have in stock and plan the specific dish I want to make. If we want to have something different one day no problem, but it is just helping me to be more organized, use the food that I have at home first and to plan my shopping list better. Our budget will soon be getting much tighter, so I am trying anyway I can think of to pinch pennies. _________________ MARY |

| My family is forever requesting special meals. I submit only when I can find the items on sale. I keep a list of what they request and keep that in mind. I refuse to buy anything not actually needed unless it is on sale _________________ Vicki

| I voted for sales ads & what I already have on hand. I'm not as good as stocking up as some of you girls, but I do tend to make the "usuals"....same stuff all the time. Pasta is a big staple in my house....we only have it twice a week, but my kids think we have it at least 5 . I say "tough!", it's nutritious & inexpensive. and it IS only twice. Once when I make the tomato sauce w/meatballs fresh, then once leftover on Wednesdays. It's SO hard getting everybody to like the same thing! That's my biggest challenge i think. Plus, I would still like to get the food bill down lOWER!!! |

| My menu plans have gone out the window over the last several weeks I've been working too much and different shifts and barely get the following weeks roster by Fridays on the week just before! Hopefully at the end of my 3 month probation (in approx 3-4 weeks) things will be more settled and a little more permanent. Then I can get back into a routine. I do love my routines...I might overdo being organized....lol...DH reckons I'm not spontaneous enough
B-b-b-b-but someone has to be organized in my house, otherwise it would be complete chaos!!! _________________ ~ By sowing frugality we reap liberty, a golden harvest. --Agesilaus ~ |

| We did the big portion size meals for about a week and froze them - so now, we are still eating the leftovers. We have enough for at least 2 more weeks. Which would make a week's worth of cooking last 6 weeks.
But I just pull out what I feel like eating that evening, and all is done. :-)
Next time, I'd like a little more variety. Right now, we have alot of Italian (chili, spaghetti, and lasagna).
