| I've greatly improved in this area although I'm not 100% perfect yet! If I planned to go shopping I always take my canvas totes and chiller bag. Occasionally it's an impromptu shopping trip in which case I might forget! But I'm getting heaps better!
In Ireland supermarkets charge for plastic bags and have done for several years. The last store I worked at in Aus. began to do the same. Customers grumbled at first but got used to it and they were welcome to use cardboard boxes (provided when available). People soon reconsider choosing plastic bags when they have to pay for them! Many go down fighting and complaining though _________________ ~ By sowing frugality we reap liberty, a golden harvest. --Agesilaus ~ |

| I'm not proud to say that I never do this. But I DO plan on doing it when it's just me & my hubby, and all the kids are grown & moved out. I get too much food at this point, I'd need to take 20 bags with me~ _________________

| I am guilty of only bringing a bag when I know I will be shopping at Aldis where you have to pay for bags. _________________ [url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/]

| I am same way as skin,,,try my best but often forget,,but getting better at it.When you think about the long term effects of plastic bags,,it will change your way of thinking..Such as,,when your grandchild is a grandmother,,,,,that plastic bag you threw away today will still be in the landfill.
(Grandchild is a Grandmother, think how long that will be!!) |

| | I like the idea of using cloth bags but we re-use the paper and the plastic ones are recyclable so I don't feel as bad. |

| I said very rarely. We can use canvas bags at the health food store, but the other stores would not like that at all. Plus we do a once a month shop and so would not have that many canvas bags. Bags get reused a lot in our house and we also have a bin at the grocery store were we can take bags to be recycled, so that is good. _________________ MARY |

| I watched some of a tv program a few weeks back on recycling and they were in a landfill with massive mountains of plastic all around them. They were also discussing how expensive it is to recycle plastic bags also and even using them for bin liners is basically just like throwing them in the bin. Yes at least we're getting a double use (or more) out of them....but they 'live' for an incredibly long time and the junk piles of plastic bags just keep growing and growing..... I wonder how people managed years ago before plastic bags were invented, my Gran used to carry string bags or use a shopping trolley/bag on wheels. Many people now transport their groceries home by car and still use plastic bags........it seems convenience is more important than the environment. A little effort by more people would probably make a big impact on reducing the plastic sitting in landfills. I imagine many people think...well one person won't make a difference...I suppose that's half the battle.... Okay....I'll get off my soapbox....lol
I found this article very informative if anyone's interested in the topic: http://www.abc.net.au/science/features/bags/ _________________ ~ By sowing frugality we reap liberty, a golden harvest. --Agesilaus ~ |
