I joined a new online group today who knit for our city's needy, I found the link through Freecycle. Members are from all over Australia it seems. Groups try to meet monthly for a 'Knit & Natter'...there are a few locations to cover the whole city depending on which suburbs members live in.
There is one close to me next Friday, I'm going to try to make it. I'm so excited and looking forward to contributing and maybe learning a few new things too. One lady lives in my suburb so that's a plus. Smile
I'll be sorting out my old baby/children's patterns next week!

A very charitable thing to do, skin. It sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun getting together with all the other women.

Good for your Skin! You will have a lot of fun with fellow knitters I am sure and it is really sweet of you to use your talent to give to those in need.

I was going to knit some baby items but since I already had some 'spare' wool at home I decided to crank out a few ladies beanies first. I found an old pattern I'd never used before, I think they turned out okay. I put photos in the gallery of the two I've knit over the last week using up partial balls of wool, so they didn't really cost me anything but time. I'm also going to donate that green feathery hat I'd posted a pic of before, it's been hanging around here waiting on a home to go to! I'm going to do a few more ladies beanies/hats, then maybe some men's beanies or baby items. I like having a good reason to knit Smile

OH! Also...one of the ladies emailed me after I'd mentioned wanting to learn to crochet. She told me of this fantastic book she'd found and recommended to several other ladies. I found it at the store she mentioned and had a quick browse through it, I almost bought it but decided DH or DS can get it for me for Christmas Wink

I can crochet, but I can't knit very well. My grandmother taught me when I was about 5 yrs old.

Sissy, many people say you tend to do one, or the other, seldom both. But I'd love to learn, I think crochet works up much quicker Very Happy

Well, I'm off to the City Hall tomorrow morning (by bus) to hand in my beanie donations (pics in portail/gallery) as some of the knitting group are going to an annual 'Homeless Connect Day' which is held there. I think several organizations set up stands and give items to the homeless people who come in. I'm a little nervous as I've never met any of the group as yet (the other meeting didn't happen) but I'd hate to miss out on this opportunity to help out. I don't even know where the City Hall is, but DS is taking me in by bus Rolling Eyes I'll know next time. I'm sure it will be a very 'eye-opening' experience, I'm not sure what to expect until I get there. Now that I have a little more free time I want to do something worthwhile with it.
