| Are we headed for a recession,,or are we IN a recession or not at all? This week I have seen parts of the daily newspaper where it dosent have any good news on the front pages.Mondays paper was about the prices going up ,,some as high as 30 percent like eggs and milk.Tuesdays paper was about over 1 million homes have been foreclosed on.ONE MILLION,,can you believe that...how many people is one million homes now homeless.....Wednesday paper said truckers were going on strike because of high desiel fuel cost,,,which if they do that,,that means more food and extras will go up more! Then todays paper was about a airline going bankrupt and closing,,surprising everyone. Then I read on yahoo news that they are saying most Americans think we are in recession but its just something that has been blown out of proportion. m so confused,,cant believe any thing anymore! |

| IMHO - The government wants us all to believe we are not in a recession, however I do believe we are! _________________ Vicki |

| Well, the economic definition of a recession is:
The decline of the GDP ( Gross Domestic Product- total of all goods and services produced in a country in a given year) for 2 consecutive quarters.
At this point, it is still difficult to determine if we are in a recession due to the housing and mortgage debacle. It has been predicted that this country will fall into a recession late 2007 to early 2008 with a recovery by the end of 2008. Factor in that we are now a global economy and not the powerhouse we use to be decades ago, the jury is still out on this.
I guess it gets down to the old saying:
If your neighbor is out of work, it's a recession. If you're out of work, it's a depression.
Studying economics for all those years does have it's advantages. |

| I strongly agree with Vicki....there are many things going on that the government keeps from the general population... _________________ Love is a fruit, in season at all times and within the reach of every hand. Anyone may gather it and no limit is set. ~ Mother Teresa |

| I think there's a lot more to the depression that just job lost. People just seem down. They don't smile or say hello like they used to. So much is changing and so rapidly. It's hard to keep up anymore.
I thought this time of my life would be slower, more relaxed. I'm working harder and doing more now than when I was in my 20's and 30's. It can get tiring some days.
I hope things work out for people. The American dream seems to be becoming the American Nightmare. |
