PostSubject: use it up challenge   Wed 07 Mar 2007, 2:37 pm

Today I have been finding like bottles of cleaners and condensing them into one and trying to use up almost empty bottles of stuff so I can toss them. It feels so good to get rid of the old bottles! My problem is since I use coupons I'm always finding free or really cheap cleaners and I end up only using up the ones I like so under the kitchen sink I have all kinds of partially used cleaners. I once read "the best cleaner for the job is the one you already have" that's probably true, it just takes using it!

I have been trying to get rid of some of the shampoos we don't like by using them to wash the pet bedding and rugs. Lotions I don't like I use on my legs lol can't smell them or feel them there.

I need to start cooking with some of the odd ball foods I'd got in the pantry that we keep bypassing and get rid of them. I also need to use all those cake and brownie mixes since I don't like using the oven much during the summer.

The baggy sweats and stained tshirts I've worn around the house this winter I'm going to turn into rags.

Wanna join me in this challenge I'd love to hear how all of you are using up excess stuff.

Great idea Redneck Girl...I have been trying to use things up too. Mostly it is lotion. I will have to look around the house. I am sure there is a lot I should be condensing.

We are doing this as well....we have had a bottle of shampoo that we didn't like so we are putting it in our soap bottles as a re-fill...we are using up odds and ends in the pantry too...we have been on this quest for a while...not too much "stuff" left here Smile

Amazingly I'm pretty organized with this kind of stuff (I have to be good with something, right?...lol).
I only have one container for each cleaner I use, i.e. window cleaner, general wipe-up cleaner, bathroom cleaner, dishwash liquid, etc....most I refill from larger bulk sized packaging so I really don't have much waste with these kind of things.
I recently had a clothes swap party and exchanged clothes I no longer wanted and some leftovers went straight to the charity store afterwards.
I don't like clutter and try my best to stay organized and on top of things, it makes me feel less stressed Smile

My issue is having the same things in multiple places, David is the culprit on this one! I have a bottle of Dawn under sink, gone so have to get another, then I find said bottle in the shed, or on the boat or in his truck, same with paper towels, rags, window cleaner. Next thing I know my bottle of Dawn is gone again, it's in the shed beside the last one that went missing becuz he never looked for it in the shed before he stole mine. I've tried getting the big bottle and refilling, but he takes that, too! So now I round up stuff once or twice a month. Plus, he creates junk drawers in almost every room of the house, and you can guess what happen, all the small hammers end up in one drawer, etc, etc...ahhhhhhh. He's away tis week on a fishing trip so I'm gonna organize while he's gone, drives him nuts!

Aww Teri, isn't that frustrating?...lol.

I like to know where everything is so I always put things in the same place, unfortunately DH & DS aren't quite so helpful....grrrr....I have to bite my tongue a lot!

It is funny though when DH is looking for something that he hasn't put back where it 'lives'....but he still forgets (or is that neglects Rolling Eyes ) to do it a lot!

I'm trying to use up the perishable foods in the refigerator before they go bad. With only 2 of us now it's a challenge. This week I finished all the milk, all the bread and all the fresh veggies before they had to be thrown out and finished off al the home cooked leftover meals. The only thing that's going in the rubbish is leftovers from a seafood dinner out that I really didn't care for the first time (there was nothing bad, just didn't care for it taste wise) and couldn't make myself eat again. I also didn't eat out once this week!

It's funny...since we lost the girls we have not wasted any food at all! We had a little bit left over from 3 meals...some ramen noodles, some beef stew and some mashed potatoes, so I put them in a pie crust and baked them..telling my family it was "pot pie" and they all had seconds! We had some leftover mexican type food from a casserole and we ate it in taco shells...YUM! So, we are doing well with using it up!

Kim that is great. We have been wasting less also lately. I guess because we have less to waste

Kim what clever ways of serving leftovers!

I'm still getting cheap thrills out of tossing empty bottles and containers, now if I can just refrain from getting more!

Gayla, melon banana cream rinse, that's one scent I'd be letting my dh use up hee hee. Since his hair is short and doesn't tangle I make him use all the shampoo's and conditioners I don't like, he hasn't complained yet Smile
