Can I ask a nosey question,,,if you pay for your water,,,can I ask what it is,,the bill.I understand location can change the price some also but I used to live in a different county which I had a well..now in this county we have city water in which we pay for.Its good water,,you can drink it straight frm the tap,,but for this household of 4 adults and a baby our water bill for 3 months was 185.17.That averages close to 63.00 a month.

I thought it was a good bill,,averages like 15.00 a person per month,,hubby says that he thinks its way too high.I have been trying to be frugal with water..have a jug in the toilet tank to use less water..we dont water the lawn but we will water plants with a pitcher,,not a hose.
A month has already gone into the next bill,,but Im gonna keep trying to cut back to see if it goes lower.

Donna,
Is that water and sanitation together? We get seperate bills for each and for 3 months each bill is around $35. If together it would be roughly $70 for 3 months of water and sanitation. I know we live not too far from each other so I'd assume they would charge around the same. We only have 2 adults...the minimum for per 3 months is $30.

Where I live you get the first 9000 gallons at a certain rate and then additional gallons, I believe by the 1000, is at an additional higher rate. We, also, have the sewer tax included in the bill. For 3 months, we pay roughly $55.00. We rarely even hit the 9000 gallon mark. That's just for dh and me. If we cross the bridge into the other town, which is also in another county, we would be paying triple the amount.

You might want to check for any leaks in the toilet and faucets. My brother was losing 200 gallons of water a day from a leaky toilet. He was getting bills over $300 for the 3 months. A 25 cent washer can save you a lot of money.

There's not much point quoting our charge for water since we're in a totally different country Razz
But we've been on level 5 water restrictions now for a while, I think that's the highest. There's been a lot of debate about using (& drinking) recycled water. Every member in each household is supposed to use less than 140 litres of water per day. Our last rates bill water-usage chart showed our home uses less than half the city average. No carwashing, no garden watering, quick showers, full laundry-loads, turning off the tap while brushing teeth etc...we try to be very conscious of our water usage and also have a dual-flush cistern.
On the plus side, our rainwater tank is full Very Happy It rained heavily for a few days several weeks ago and not since.
Next year I'd love to get another 5000 litre tank but have it plumbed indoors for toilet flushing and whatever else we can use it for inside, this has to be done by a certified plumber.

WOW Sissy, it's hard to believe a small leak can lose so much, huh? Shocked

Im at work right now,,but will check on if the sanitation bill was with the bill when I get home ,,but I dont think it was,,hopefully I am wrong!LOL..
Skin,,I love that idea of re routing water for flushing,,I have looked into it online,,its called graywater,,or might be spelled greywater system.I have so many plans when we build to have this system installed.
I am taking the bull by the horns on the water usuage,,I even went and did my sons laundry,,just to make sure they were full loads,,sometimes I think they throw a few things in to go out that night with,,the bill just came so a month has gone by,,but the next 2 months on the cycle,,will see if things change.Im also gonna do a detailed inspection on plumbing this Friday(my day off)to make sure no leaks. Thanks for your alls info!

We don't pay for water as we have a well....I don't think we could afford it if we had to pay for water or sewer.

skin, it is amazing what a small leak can do. We're going to be replacing old faucets once the wearther cools down. Some of our faucets were from my grandparents and need to be updated so they don't leak anymore.

We pay for water and sewer together on one bill, the sewer fee is calculated on the amount of water you use. Our 3 month bill for 2 adults in Quincy is $55 for 3 months and it's $35 in Florida. At our cottage in Nova Scotia we have well water and a septic tank, now while we don't pay monthly for that, the amount of effort and the expense to maintance the pump and tank makes me often wish I could just pay a small monthly bill! Lucky for me my brother is able to do all the work himself, but I hate to see him working on the pump in "Mesquito Hollow" on a hot August vacation day.

I know this is a little late, but in Akron, we pay approximately $40/month for water/sewer/trash.
