PostSubject: MARCH ORGANIZING - Paperwork   Fri 29 Feb 2008, 5:14 pm

This month we're aiming to organize all our paperwork, i.e. photos, recipes, books/magazines, bills/receipts,warranties, etc.

My receipts/warranties are okay and filed alphabetically. I normally go through them twice a year and shred whatever I no longer need. I really need to organize my photos so I'm going to start with those over the coming week. I have some sets of double-prints of which I'm going to put the extras aside for crafts or to send to family. I have others which are blurry or just plain rubbish...lol...I'll shred those.
Then I'll have to work out how to organize what's left. I may get a few albums. If anyone has any ideas please share them, I need inspiration Razz

I am starting on the photos first then the files.I have a photo box for pictures but not all my pictures are that size,,,so I have a few boxes from work,,all the same size.I have started sorting,,one box is for us..meaning my hubby sons and grandkids,,and a few pictures of my mom.
Next box is of old photos of my childhood and hubbys. Then the 3rd is everything/everyone else.
I have a small stack that are the duplicates of photos, not sure what I am going to do with them. Some scrapbooks use duplicates in creative ways,,so I might be researching that!
This is a good month for me to do this.We are going to hubbys sisters Easter weekend, and shes going to give me more photos of relatives of hubby family! So I need to be ready and organized!!

I have allready started with photos...allthough mine are digital...all my reg. pics are all organized and in the right albums...so I am putting all my digital pics in "albums" on the computer and then I'll burn them...then I'll print my favs and put in albums....wheeww...then comes the filing cabenet...and then the kids portfolio's. I have been having to throw out some of the schoolwork (after it's done) b/c there's no more room in their folders!....and finally my computer desk Smile

My accountant told me to hold onto things for 7 years. I each year in a separate file box labeled with the year. In January I shred the latest year and use it for this year.

I must say I pitch everything...it seems as if whatever your missing is on file somewhere and you can get a copy...we have never really had anything come up...we do keep our taxes though.

I file bills for the previous year (but always keep the very first from each company so I know when contracts commenced). I file them alphabetically for easy identification/storage.
I keep receipts/warranties for as long as they're required/valid.
Anything tax related I keep for 5-7 depending on what's required, they're filed in large envelopes for each year and labelled with the year.

Have you a plan on how to organize them Sissy? Please share any ideas as I have lots of magazine clippings, etc and had considered using A4 sized display books with the clear plastic sleeves, one for beef, one for chicken, one for desserts....etc....I need inspiration! Smile

I started organizing my recipes also. I save a 3-ring binder from the garbage at work. I have several 3 hole folders to put inside, one for bread, one for cookie, one for misc. desserts. I am going to 'save' another binder for the appetizer/entree recipes.
