Sorry I'm a little late in starting this, I've been pre-occupied the last few days.
This month (May) we're spending on organizing a garage/shed.
Please post any helpful hints, ideas, links etc for everyone to share.

I like the idea of sorting items in separate categories.
One thing we've done which has looked much tidier is to keep all shelving along one wall only and trying to organize what goes on each shelving unit, e.g. power tools on one set, gardening accessories on another, plumbing and electrical accessories on another, paint on another.

Our garage is starting to get a bit messed up again (DH...sssshhhh) but we'll work on it throughout the month as we didn't finish organizing it last time.

I need to get rid of "stuff" out of our garage. You know, the kind of stuff that maybe we'll use it someday and it's been sitting there for 10 years. I can't wait to sweep the garage floor. It's coverered with leaves that blew into it last fall. The trim really needs to be painted, too. (big sigh).

Sometimes, I wish we all did live closer to each other. It would be so much fun taking turns and going over to each other's house for coffee and pie, sit around the kitchen table and talk. (sigh) But at least we have our cyber-space together.

I found the above tip interesting. I actually have a pine double-towel rail which I bought some time ago for $3 at a car-boot sale with the intention of using it in the spare toilet in the garage (which we never use). I almost gave it away on Freecycle but hesitated while trying to come up with some kind of brainwave for repurposing it Laughing NOW I'm going to adapt this idea by inverting the towel rail so the furthest protruding rail is on top and I can hang smaller items from it. It should fit nicely between our garage doors and we can hang brooms, rakes, dustpans etc. on it! It won't be visible from outside when the doors are open.

I'd really love to completely gut the garage and start over but we do have a few pieces of furniture sitting in there that are waiting to move back into the adjacent room when DH has finished renovating it Neutral
I really need to work on my patience Rolling Eyes

I started on Saturday. It took both our cars to get all the things we were donating to Salvation Army. Tonight, I'm going out to start sorting through things to see what can be kept and straightening it out so I can get my car back into the garage.
