| To be honest, I found the ground turkey by accident at Save-A-Lot. A few months ago, you could get it for $0.89/lb. It came in a little 1 lb. tube with plastic around it. Now, it is $0.99/lb.
Yes, it tastes exactly like hamburger but is much more healthy for you. We use it in hamburger helper, lasagna, spaghetti sauce, chilli, etc.
Just as I was writing this post - Todd came up and had breakfast in bed for me. He made sausage out of the ground turkey. I asked him to send me the recipe and it is:
"These county-style patties are so simple to prepare. You'll never again settle for store-bought versions that are loaded with preservatives and not nearly as good."
INGREDIENTS: 2 pounds ground pork 2 teaspoons ground sage 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1 1/2 teaspoons pepper 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper 1/2 teaspoon brown sugar DIRECTIONS: In a bowl, combine all ingredients; mix well. Shape into eight 4-in. patties. In a skillet over medium heat, fry patties for 3-4 minutes per side until browned or until no longer pink in the center. They turned out like real sausage patties. Very tasty (if you like sausage: I'm not real fond of sausage)!

| Thanks for the recipe...my sister uses the ground turkey all the time! We always use ground venison from what we kill...we also eat other animals for our meat...we sometimes buy chicken and I make tuna and salmon patties. For a treat we make meatloaf with "real" hamburger...only when on sale I love all the tips!

| I really like ground turkey, but I don't think it tastes exactly like hamburger. I also like ground chicken. I have a nice WW recipe for ground turkey roll. 1 lb ground turkey 1 egg 1/2 cup Italian style bread crumbs mix all together and flatten out into a rectangle 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick. Spread with 1cup shedded RF cheese top with lightly cooked chopped broccoli. Roll everything up Cook on 350 for 40 mintues |

| For the first time in my life, I am finding out what it means to live on a tight budget. All of these expenses are coming at us at once between the wedding, the new house (closing costs/repair costs), our car insurance, etc. It is overwhelming.
Todd and I are on a "no spend" budget for the next 3 weeks until we close on the house. He says no groceries even. We can eat what we've got in the house. Which means I should start making some more bread. The only thing we will be spending money on will be gas for my car (his gas is free because he gets perks for being to work on time every quarter).
We will see how it goes...

| That is good news kim, although it seems things are still going to be tight, I hope things improve soon
M....you so remind me of myself around the same time last year...everything just seemed to hit us at once and I was robbing Peter to pay Paul and felt like pulling my hair out in frustration.....it was an ongoing juggling act for quite a while but we got through it by knuckling down, being strict with ourselves and perservering. Try to relax at home as much as you can by having some time to yourself, reading with a cuppa, soaking in a scented bath, listening to soft music etc....all good, frugal stress relievers. _________________ ~ By sowing frugality we reap liberty, a golden harvest. --Agesilaus ~ |
