Homemade Bathroom CleanersI'm going to show you how to
make your own bathroom cleaning products using a few, inexpensive
ingredients you can get at the grocery and health food stores.
Homemade Toilet Bowl Cleaner

You'll
need 3 cups of white vinegar. Vinegar contains acetic acid, a weak acid
that can help disinfect and get rid of hard water stains.

If
you'd like, you can also add 10 drops of tea tree essential oil to give
it a fresh scent. You can find it in some grocery or drug stores or at
the health food store.

Pour it into the bowl slowly to avoid splashing. Leave it for 15 minutes. Scrub it well with a toilet brush.
Homemade Tub and Tile Cleaner

The
tub and shower is the other area in the bathroom that can be tough to
clean. Again, vinegar can help to eliminate mineral buildup, filmy soap
residue, and mildew. You can use it on the tub, tiles, and glass shower
doors.

Mix 1 part vinegar and 1 part water in a spray bottle. If
you clean your shower regularly, you don't need to let it sit but if it
has been a while, you may need to let the vinegar sit for longer so it
can work. Rinse it off.
If you need some extra cleaning power, use
liquid detergent and a nylon or plastic sponge. I got this detergent
from the health food store but you can use any liquid detergent. Avoid
soap, which can leave a residue.

If there are rust stains on
your tub, mix a bit of cream of tartar with water until the consistency
is like toothpaste. Put a little on the stains and use a sponge to wash
off.
Keeping Your Bathroom Cleaner

Now that your tub and
tile are clean, you might want to get a squeegee like this one I picked
up from the hardware store. After showering, taking one or two minutes
to squeegee your shower can help prevent mildew.
Homemade Mirror and Glass Cleaner

The
last area that can require a lot of maintenance are the mirrors. To get
sparkly mirrors, try plain club soda. Get regular club soda from the
grocery store, not low-sodium.
Fill a spray bottle, spritz it on the mirrors or glass, and wipe them clean using a dry lint-free cloth or paper.
Safety Tips for Homemade Bathroom Cleaners

Never mix homemade cleaners with commercial cleaners, because when mixed, they can produce toxic gases.
Use
the same safety precautions as you would with store bought cleaners-
keep them out of reach of children and pets, and out of your eyes and
mouth. Always work in a well-ventilated area.
Store your cleaning
ingredients in store bought containers-don't use empty cleaner
containers or use food containers and utensils.

And finally, label containers carefully and list all ingredients on the bottle.

Thanks for sharing the tips Vicki. I purchased a squeegee, this last year, and keep it on the top shelf in the shower caddy, it really cuts down on cleaning with the glass shower doors. I wish I'd done it years ago, it sure saves some elbow grease later!
