| Oh my goodness gracious... I am actually in shock right now.
If Todd and I had a $3,000+ bill, I dont know what we'd do! If we had an electric bill of $320/month, I would go spastic. That is nearly the amount of our mortgage on the new house!
I have been complaining about our $135 electric bill here in the new house. I am used to it being no more than $50 in the Akron house. However, we had gas heat in the Akron house. This one, we have propane, and just need to worry about filling it up in the next month or so (which will cost about $600). Alot more appliances at this house are electric, actually everything is. So, Todd and I have been putting in the energy saving bulbs all over the house, he bought a propane conversion kit for the dryer (right now, we are using my old dryer which is electric), and we have an 80 gallon hot water tank. We know this is sucking alot of the electricity. So, we've decided to go with a smaller (40 gallon) propane hot water tank. We havent bought it yet - that is on our shopping list for next week or 2 weeks from now.
I dont know what we'd do if we didnt have the option to switch some of our appliances over to propane. We last filled up our propane tank last February when we bought the house - it cost $600.00. We are going to have to "fill 'er up" within the next month or so. That would have been a $50/month gas bill. Next year, we know we will most likely have to fill it up twice, and we are fine with that. It's already in the budget. :-)

| Actually, I was wondering, what everyone's bills are like. Just as a comparison from around the states and Australia.
Phone bill + DSL : $70.00/month (no long distance) (Phone+DSL in Akron was only $45/month!) Cell phones (3 of them) : $100.00/month (we are getting rid of as soon as our contract is up in May) Electric at new house: $135/month Propane at new house: ~$50/month - $100/month Electric at Akron house: $20/month Heat at Akron house: $56/month (on a vacant house!) Water: Well water - $0 Trash pickup: $25/month Dish : $45/month (I could do without - Todd cannot)
I didnt even think of putting the house payments on here and insurance. So, this is my addition:
New House mortgage : $431/month for a 20 year mortgage New House Taxes: $100/month New House Insurance: $35/month (we have a high deductible. I am going to lower the deductible to $1,000 instead of $5,000, so the payment would be $560/year instead of $400). Akron House: $575 (includes property taxes, insurance, and everything) Todd's Van: $172/month 5 year loan My car: $250/month 4 year loan Car Insurance: $350/6 months
Todd's credit card (3.99% interest for life): $289/month My credit card (4.99% interest for life): $250/month
How depressing...

| Hi hear you Kim and M - it is very depressing. I hate our bills. We pay so much for our house and it is actually cheap for around here!! A majority of the people around here have house payments in excess of $2500.00 a month. Our house isn't massive either or new or lot of land. I just don't get it!! _________________ Vicki

| Some of our bills are paid monthly, others quarterly and a few annually (insurances). I've tried to approximately equate them to monthly amounts so here goes:
cable, t.v. and internet - $160 (approx), was $125 until DH got a laptop phone - $25 (runs through computer cable connection & has been saving us $50 per month) cell phone-$80 (for 3) house mortgage - $1200 approx (we now pay $550 per fortnight after interest rate rise) electric - $200 (although it's usually $150 or so) rates - $150 (approx), this includes water and rubbish collection. vehicle insurance - $80 for 2 (approx) vehicle registration - $95 for 2 (approx) home & contents insurance - $45 (approx) life insurance - $50 for 2 (approx) credit card - varies because we only use it if absolutely necessary and always clear it each month so we have NEVER incurred interest charges (phew).
None of this includes petrol/gas expenses or food which are regular monthly expenses also, obviously! We have no car payments as we bought both vehichles outright without finance deals. We no longer pay school fees (that was painful). We do have 2 current credit agreements running which should be cleared within a few months, so I didn't include them as I don't consider them ongoing (both are interest free ) although I pay $300 monthly against one to clear it within the 12 month interest free period. OUCH! I'll be glad to see the back of that one.
I hope I haven't forgotten anything. This has been a good exercise, I should actually sit down and go through our filing cabinet and calculate every monthly expense accurately, work out what we should have left and find out where the 'holes' are! Isn't that called a BUDGET? _________________ ~ LESS IS MORE ~ |

| Ok , I'll give this a try:
Water: $30.00 for 3 months Electric: averages around $45.00 per month, but DH has been running the computer programs non-stop so it was $70.00 this month. Gas: varies during the year from about $25 per month in warm months to about $300.00 per month in winter Car Insurance for two cars $535.00 for 6 months House Insurance: about $250.00 per year Health Insurance: Mine is paid for at work, DH pays about 20% per month which is deducted from his paycheck so I have no idea what it is. City, County and School taxes: combined total of about $1900.00 per year Credit Cards: are paid in full every month Cable/DSL: DH pays this but I think it's about $140.00 per month Phone: about $20.00 per month Cell phone: $30.00 every 3 months for two phones Groceries: average about $50.00 per week
DH has put himself on a budget - FINALLY. We, also, have to make an appointment to get into an insurance reduction class for the cars. We can save $200.00 a year for the next 3 years by taking this class. |
