| Does anyone know how to remove nail polish from clothes? Is it safe to use nail polish remover on fabric, I have two bottles one with acetone and one that says acetone free. The fabric is a cotton/poly blend with 4 % spandex, lol now that I've gotten older I love that spandex stretch I was lucky enough to find these at a consignment shop marked down to $1.00. There are only two small spots of polish but if I can remove it I'd like to. Goodness knows the spots shouldn't matter too much since I'm always covered with styrofoam beads and packing material at work anyway. Thanks! |

| Here are some ideas I found
Removing Nail Polish Stains from Clothing Can you get red nail polish off a white shirt? --Sue Fisher, Naples, FL
This method should work for most fabrics: After testing for colorfastness on a hidden spot, sponge over the stain with pure acetone, available at beauty-supply shops and drugstores. Then launder the shirt as you normally would. Never use acetone on fabrics that contain triacetate or acetate (check care labels), because it can dissolve the cloth. For those, use amyl acetate, available at drugstores. Good Gone I used a product called "goo gone" to remove an old nail polish from a cotton skirt. I rubbed and rubbed and rubbed the fabric together after letting it sit with the goo gone on it and it did eventually come out. I had to use a razor to *lightly* shave the pill off afterward, but at least I can wear my skirt now! (09/18/2006) By Mom of 2
: Removing Nail Polish from Clothing I used cutter's deep woods bug repellant, after spraying it on there for a while and rubbing lightly with a towel I got the stain out. Then to prevent an oily looking stain I put oxyclean on it. PERFECT! (09/08/2004) By CC
RE: Nail Polish Stains on Clothing Post By Sharon (Guest Post) (12/27/2006) I spilled a whole bottle of dark purple nail polish on my shirt before I noticed it (I was watching tv) so I looked here and found out that you could use bug spray and I tryed OFF skintastic with deet and with a little rubbing it worked like a charm with no staining!!

| Im going to try the "Goo Gone" and the bug repellent on my daughter's ugg boots. The little girl she was babysitting was running while holding a bottle of nail polish & the nail polish bottle of course broke when it hit the floor(yes, the mother of the little girl was home at the time, and did not tell her daughter not to run with that nail polish ,so it wasn't my daughter's fault)but besides it getting all over the person's floor, wall, & carpet, it also got on my daughter's ugg boot(just one)but enough to notice, not big, not small & even a little on her jeans, but we were more upset about the boots!! I tried hairspray & nothing. Perhaps we let it sit too long? I didn't start trying to remove the stain til about two days later. We're SO upset. as you know, those are expensive boots, which I can't replace. and the mother didn't even offer to pay for them, give her some money to put toward new ones,or to take to a cleaner to see if they could get the stain out. But I DO have some "Goo Gone" and will try that. Thanks!! |

| Thanks Vicki. I tried the acetone nail polish I had and later hair spray and then scrubbed with spray n wash but it's being very stubborn. I washed them and will probably wear them then try again, maybe trying goo gone. Who knows the stain may not even be nail polish, whatever it is really bonded with the fabric. Thanks for your help Vicki. Cheapy, how disappointing about your daughters boots. Good luck getting the polish off. |
