| I know it's still 3 months until our big trip overseas but I want to start putting together a small 'flight entertainment bag'. It's a really long trip consisting of 3 flights: 1 x approx. 9-10 hours. 1 x approx. 11 hours. 1 x approx. 1 hour. These flight times do NOT include airport check-in and 'hanging around' times. As much as I'm looking forward to catching up with family, I'm dreading the flights
I enjoy reading, as does DS, DH doesn't read but enjoys music. DH will have music on an ipod and most likely DS will also. There will be inflight movies but on aisle screens so I'm unsure how good the view will be, I can swap seats with DH or DS if I'm too short to see... So far I was going to pack a few books, magazines, puzzle books, playing cards. I'd love to bring knitting but probably wouldn't be allowed to bring the needles on board! It would be an ideal time to do crafts though
Can any of you wonderful ladies suggest anything we can bring or do to keep ourselves occupied during the long trip? _________________ ~ By sowing frugality we reap liberty, a golden harvest. --Agesilaus ~ |

| Hmmm, that is a hard one! Have you ever done any Japanese Origami? We bought a kit one time and it had a little instruction book with different projects and really pretty papers and it was a lot of fun! They suggested even using some of them to top presents, or use as Christmas decorations. Not so sure that you would want to tote them all over everywhere however...too much to carry. I will keep thinking... How about writing a book that will make you rich and famous? _________________ MARY |

| Thanks for the ideas ladies
kim - I'd thought of writing out Christmas cards, I'll have all the presents wrapped and packed in a suitcase to take over with us and was going to have the cards prepared also but I might just pack them in a flight bag to keep me occupied for some of the time.
Donna - The audio book sounds fun, you know I've always heard that's a good way to learn a foreign language too and I've considered doing that also...my French, taught in school..waaaaay back, would be very rusty (in fact probably close to non-existant) so that's a thought!
GentleRain - your suggestion made me think of bringing a craft book along. I'll start checking the bookstores and thriftshops. I'd gotten a great one from the library last year on different ways to decorate baskets, terracotta pots and other containers to make as (or fill with) gifts.
Thanks so much, I'm still trying to keep it light! _________________ ~ By sowing frugality we reap liberty, a golden harvest. --Agesilaus ~ |

| I usually carry some file cards in my purse to write down ideas, make lists, use as a book mark, etc.
You could keep a travel journal in a little notebook...even just write a sentence here and there. It would be a nice way to remember your trip for years to come along with your photos. _________________ MARY |
