| Has anyone ever used ear candles?
I only heard of them, for the first time, a few weeks ago while watching a weekly t.v. show. Apparently they're specially made to insert into your ear, you light the opposite end and it draws moisture/wax/etc from inside the ear canal.
DH asked me to buy some for him today from the pharmacy. They're about the width of a pencil (& a little longer) and made from beeswax. There's a filter on the end that goes into your ear and the wax stops burning about 2/3 of the way down. DH used one in each ear and one had a long thin line of wax inside afterwards, he was amazed at how it worked. I'd bought a pack of 4 and he said I should try one...well ...... I put DH's efforts to shame I had no idea there was so much 'gunk' way inside my ear canal!!! These were just amazing, simple but effective, my SIL went to the doctors some years ago and had drops put into her ears and a syringe used for the same result.
Just wondered if anyone else had ever heard of or tried them?
OBVIOUSLY....cotton buds just ain't good enough!!! _________________ ~ By sowing frugality we reap liberty, a golden harvest. --Agesilaus ~ |

| Found 'em online! at vitacost.com....they're called Wally's ear candles (100% beeswax)....and I think it is $6.99 for a 4-pack. I have ordered other things from vitacost.com in the past...and they are great...fast shipping & trustworthy. Low prices, too. also I think it's only $5 to ship any size order, which is good these days~ _________________

| I'm planning on buying an 8pk next time, much better value but I was hesitant on the initial purchase as I didn't know if they'd be effective or not...boy, was I surprised...not to mention shocked! I have to say they were amazing! That's a great price for them cheapy, mine were more expensive although I didn't have the shipping cost. Now I've tried them and KNOW they work I'm going to shop around other pharmacy stores
I hate to say it but, another result like my first one and I'd nearly have enough to make a tealight! UNBELIEVABLE...I'm still shocked...lol...the only consolation is that it was 41 years worth of build-up. _________________ ~ By sowing frugality we reap liberty, a golden harvest. --Agesilaus ~ |

| I have heard of these before, but never have used them. I am a q-tip finatic. I think my ears create alot of wax, because I use q-tips every morning (and sometimes before bed), and there is always something on the tips.
My thing is - is it healthy to do the candle thing every week or every day? The way I see it, there is wax in your ears to keep away germs and infections. I wouldnt want to take it all out. Kind of like boogers - what are they really for? They are always there and a neusance at times, but they must be there for a reason, right?
Oh wait...I have put peroxide in my ears (because I'm addicted to the bubbling noise). That couldnt be any better than sucking out the earwax with the candles... I wonder if WalMart has those candles.
Now you've got me curious - I may have to do some research.

| According to the directions/etc on the label m, it's good to use these regularly but, personally I don't see the need. It's supposed to be relaxing and a method used by many cultures. The way I see it, once I've removed that gunk, I shouldn't have to use them again for quite some time. I'm planning on a 2nd time though, to make sure I've cleared out as much 'gunk' as possible. And I didn't feel a thing! I've read (& heard) that we should all be careful even sticking cotton-buds (or q-tips) inside our ears. The filters on the ends of these candles wouldn't even fit as far into the ear as a q-tip. _________________ ~ By sowing frugality we reap liberty, a golden harvest. --Agesilaus ~ |

| Donna, honestly, I'm not sure which is why I'm planning on one more go as I'm reckoning I didn't clear it all, even after the amount of build-up I've already removed! I'm thinking maybe it only keeps working until the flame dies down.
DH says he definitely feels and hears a difference. He had used drops a few weeks previous to using the candles in an attempt to break up any wax build-up so that probably helped to clear his.
I've probably lost about 2kg though from what I cleared out Just kidding
Our neighbours were over last night for a BBQ and we were talking about them. Her Mum (& many of her work colleagues) have used them a few times and think they're great.
I wouldn't have believed they worked if I hadn't seen it for myself. BTW, you probably wouldn't normally see what comes out except DH was curious and cut the bottom open to see what was inside The one I'd used in my right ear was 'full' _________________ ~ By sowing frugality we reap liberty, a golden harvest. --Agesilaus ~ |
