| Being green is a major goal of mine, how does everybody else feel about this? I mean, I know it's been "touched" upon in past threads & it was decided that just being frugal is part of the whole eco movement....but what about more than just a "thread" here & there, how about a place to post info, new and helpful websites or articles, and even encouragement with this (*it's not easy being green*!! LOL! just thought I'd throw a "funny" in there!) any suggestions, opinions, etc.? Thanks! _________________

| I love the idea, I struggle with being green as it's not David's priority. He's a real neatnik and even likes the recycle box neat (VBG). Today I was organizing Christmas cards, old papers, etc and was putting old stuff out in the paper recycling box and he threw it all away, said it would get too wet before recycle day, but the real reason I think was it wasn't neat looking, so I got it out of the trash in put it in the to be recycled ceral box. He is much more likely to buy a well marketed cleaner vs a green cleaner. Oh well, after almost 25 years it's too much trouble to break in another man! _________________ Dear Lord, help me remember how lucky I am on both the good and the bad days! |

It is for kermit!
I suggested a while back about trying out a monthly enviro challenge but it didn't go anywhere...lol.
But I get what you mean about a permanent spot to discuss ideas and post tips and links, that would be very helpful. I don't think I could be a 'total' greenie , I do like some conveniences but I try in other areas. I'm hopeless at gardening too _________________ ~ By sowing frugality we reap liberty, a golden harvest. --Agesilaus ~ |

I think I remember that, skin...about you suggesting the enviro-challenge. It sounds familiar, though knowing me,iI was probably "skimmimg" with my reading again~ oy, I need to work on my patience. In any case, I am so bad at the craft challenge, I just don't do it. Perhaps the word "challenge" created a mental block for me!~ I just thought that perhaps a place where we could ask each other questions or find links to websites that have articles or helpful products or get information from might be useful. sometimes being green is not very frugal...the cost of organic food can be incredibly high! organic cotton clothing can be expensive! so I kind of didn't want to mix up the "green" info with the "Frugal" info...that's why I thought a "special" place to put the "Green"-suff was a good idea, I was just hoping that everyone else thought so ,too~ Hopefully we CAN all be green AND frugal...that would be ideal!!
Gayla, you sound like you are doing a great job!! I don't know how you find time for everything you do!! or the energy-whew!!
That's too bad, Teri, about your Hubby....I have kids that just think I'm loony. Though my husband is totally with me. _________________

| Cheapy it wasn't exactly a craft challenge, it was to be a monthly enviro challenge...e.g. One month...take tote bags shopping EVERY time Another month...replace light globes with energy efficient ones Another month...buy preloved instead of new (books/clothes/etc) Another month...learn more about what you can recycle at home and DO IT Another month...line dry all laundry Etc...Etc....
I am also consciously trying, where possible, to be more environmentally aware and change some things I've been doing. I love the idea of Freecycle which I joined recently, the main purpose of which is to keep items out of landfill and prolong their life a little more. I also like buying preloved items or recycling things at home, I figure if peopled didn't buy so much stuff, demand would drop and less would be manufactured (well in some galaxy!). There is just so much material waste today....
I'd also love to get solar power at home but it's quite an expense.... _________________ ~ By sowing frugality we reap liberty, a golden harvest. --Agesilaus ~ |

| The "green" forum is a great idea. I love it. I read Vicki's post about the 50 ways to be green and I'm so glad there are links included.
Thank you for putting this here. |

Sounds great, skin...let's do the monthly enviro-challenge & post here. Seeing as we are at the beginning of January, it's not too late to come up with an idea for THIS month's eco-challenge!! woo-hoo!!
Can I start? if it's ok w/you all, I could come up with something, and post it seperately? _________________

| Cheapy, it would be great if you could start it EVERY month lol.
There are already a few to start regularly every month:
Monthly craft challenge idea (Donna's idea) Monthly 'Best ideas for being frugal about....' (Gayla's idea) Monthly Product Trial & feedback (My suggestion) Monthly Organizing Thread (My suggestion) Monthly Cheap Thrills
Can't think of anymore right now but if you would be willing to start this every month Cheapy it would be really appreciated I try to start whatever I can remember...lol.
Sharing takes the load off...
Donna, if you could also remember to start off the monthly craft challenge again, it'd be really helpful. _________________ ~ By sowing frugality we reap liberty, a golden harvest. --Agesilaus ~ |

| No thanks necessary Vicki, I enjoy contributing as much as I can and as often as I can. I wasn't aware Donna won't be on as much (although I'd noticed she hadn't been...if that makes sense...or did it sound really Irish?...lol). The old memory isn't what it used to be though...maybe it's overload..lol I'm thinking I might just make up a little note for monthly thread topics...I need all the help I can get! hehe _________________ ~ By sowing frugality we reap liberty, a golden harvest. --Agesilaus ~ |
