PostSubject: Green product testing   Wed 20 Feb 2008, 8:15 pm

At work, March 2008 Good Housekeeping magazine is already out and I was able to nab it and read a few pages,,excellent article on green products. They took assortment of cleaners labeled "green" and tested them on how well they really work. Here is a list of the top ones.I thought I would post them to help us on what to buy and not waste money.

FOR LAUNDRY:For overall spot removal-Arm and Hammer,Essential2X Concentrated(3.49 for 50 ounces)came out on top.It was perticulary effective at washing in cold water with top scores for removing ink, mascara, wine, gravy and grape juice stains.Purex natural Elements(7.00 for 100 ounces)worked almost as well and at about 1/2 the price per load of the Arm and Hammer product.

DISH DETERGENT:Of the 7 soaps tested,Planet Ultra dishwashingLiquid(3.09 for 25 ounces). It zapped dried on grease and most food particles and cleaned most plates per use.

ALL PURPOSE:Sun and Earth All Purpose(3.70 for 22 ounces)cut through greasy messes best, especially on countertops.Green Works Natural from Clorox(3.32 for 32 ounces)was a very close 2nd..with a better price per use.

SUPERSTRENGTH:Simple Green All Purpose(5.00 for 32 ounces),,scored high in several test. Most noticeable in bigger tough jobs, like scouring the BBQ grills and concrete floors. The secret is it is concentrated so you dilute as needed.

Thanks Donna, that is helpful....I have already mentioned that I like the Chlorox GreenWorks....I recently bought the toilet cleaner, but haven't used it yet.....I have used Simple Green before and it is powerful but make sure you always wear gloves with it.....the downside of it is the odor....I would never use it around my family...

Thanks Donna. When we did the laundry detergent trail I got the purex Naturals and loved it. That is all I use now except this time the store was out of it. I used to use simple green all the time and for some reason stopped. When I run out of my cleaner I will try the green works.

I've never heard of Plant Ultra Dishwashing Liquid. Is it a national brand?

I was given 2 x sample bottles of Simple Green cleaners some time back at my previous job. I had totally forgotten about them...lol. I told DH he can use them on the BBQ. Thanks for jogging my memory Donna!

I've used Planet dishwashing liquid before and it was good, however I'm using Seventh Generation now, and that one is really good, too. In fact, Seventh Generation makes LOTS og good products, but as of now, I only use their dishwashing liquid (and I keep buying it, so I guess that's the key, too! Laughing )
As for laundry, I was not pleased with Sun & Earth. it's very easy to come by, every supermarket chain seems to have it, & for a good price, too...however it's not worth it if it doesn't clean well enough, and that's what I found. I like Ecos...good stuff. Method products are also very good.
I'm still using white vinegar & baking soda for laundry stains, whitening, & disenfecting...it's working out GREAT for me. Also, making my own window & all-purpose cleaner with the white vinegar has been wonderful.
Ya know, I think it's just getting "used to" the vinegar smell that's the issue...I REALLY think that after a while (a week or so) you get used to it, and it seems to "dissipate" faster, too. it doesn't bother me at all anymore, though I do admit at the very beginning it did, and now it's just great. I associate the smell with "clean"...AND you can't smell it on the clean laundry AT ALL-Wonderful!
I'm going to try Seventh Generation laundry products next, I think they're a very good company. Very consistant quality.
