| I just read in a magazine that we should not pre-heat the oven if we are going to bake something for a long time. It wastes a lot of energy by pre heating.
Has anyone baked without pre-heating? If you don't pre-heat, won't the cooking time be longer and in effect, not be cost or energy effective? |

| I don't usually pre-heat. I set the timer as noted in the recipe and check on it at that time. More often than not, I turn off the oven at that time and just keep it in the still hot oven (turned off) for another couple of minutes. _________________ [url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/]

| I do the same. Though if I do happen to decide to pre-heat it's only for a minute or two, as opposed to the 5 minutes that our mother's went by. And of course your not supposed to pre-heat with glass pans, and I have a few of those. I have never heard of nor read anything about the not pre-heating info...where did you read this article, sissy? just wondering~ _________________

| The article was in the Paula Deen magazine. It was about living green.
So, does no pre-heating work for baking cookies from scratch or is this something you do when making cassaroles, cakes, roast beef, etc.?
I didn't know about glass pans, either. |

| | To me,,I think baking would need a pre heated oven ,,like breads things like that,,but casseroles etc I think do fine.I baked my Thanksgiving turkey withour pre heating the oven and it turned out as good as it has in the past w/o preheating. |

| I don't normally preheat for casseroles, lasagne, etc. but would for baking. I also turn off the oven a few minutes before cooking time is finished and leave the food in the hot oven without opening the door. _________________ ~ By sowing frugality we reap liberty, a golden harvest. --Agesilaus ~ |
