ECOBAGSŪ will be featured again on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Going Green 101, Friday, January 4, 2008. This special Earth Day episode was originally broadcast on 4/20/07, and raised awareness in millions of homes about the importance of taking care of our environment.

I thought this would be helpful to watch...I wrote myself a note!!

Besically, it was alot of statistics...you know, how many trees are cut down to make paper & paper bags, and how long it takes for plastic to break down in landfills. But I learned a couple of things....one was that it takes a really long time for LEATHER shoes to break down in a landfill. I was thinking i was being good by just purchasing leather shoes, figuring that they are not made from man-made materials, but I guess leather's just as bad and should be donated (of course Rolling Eyes ) when not wanted any longer.
Also, they toted organic cleaning products & soaps, drinking from aluminum water bottles as opposed to plastic, and an hour full of Oprah givin' her audience members all the green products Rolling Eyes .
Anyway, I'm glad I watched, I learned a couple of things so it wasn't a total waste of time. I guess it was a repeat from Earth day 2007.

Then later last night, I broke another tooth Rolling Eyes so I'm a little off-balance. I meant to post the January eco-challenge...started to write it, spent about 20 minutes writing it, then deleted it by mistake.. took a break, broke the tooth...so the rest of the night was a bust. Mad

Aw cheapy I am so sorry about your tooth.

I didn't know about the aluminum water bottles. I will have to look into that.

Yes, Vicki, supposedly there is something, I THINK it's a chemical ( not sure)that is known to cause endocrine disorders, that leaches into the water from this certain plastic (I will need to research this...the kind of plastic, it's a certain "number", you know the numbers that are on the bottom), so aluminum or glass, or ceramic is better for you.
They were plugging those European Sigg bottles. They're pretty cool, but roughly $20 a piece.

oh yeah, i'm sorry about my tooth, too! Crying or Very sad I feel like my teeth are just slowly falling apart!!
(remember last year's fiasco with my tooth extraction? I STILL have numbness in my left bottom lip! I just live with it cuz i'm afraid that more damage may be done if need oral surgery...& that's all I would need! I fear facial paralyzation!)

sorry didn't mean to go off topic here~ Wink

One more thing about the Oprah tips...pizza boxes cannot be recycled. They won't take 'em, you know, too much cheese & grease on them....they only take CLEAN recycled paper....& CLEAN glass & plastic for that matter. too!

They take my pizza boxes here. The stuff they don't take they just leave on the ground next to my recycling containers.

They don't take my pizza boxes here. They did the first couple of times I put them out (a few years ago), but then they stopped. And I have even witnessed the recycling guy take my pizza boxes from my recycling bin & put them w/my trash barrel.
I wonder how much they (the recycling people) actually end up having to throw away because it really shouldn't have been accepted in the first place?~ scratch
Aaaah, to be a fly in the dpw public works yard on recycling day......( Laughing )

Pizza boxes get recycled here. I watched an article on a t.v. show telling what can and cannot get recycled. They suggested just quickly rinsing out cans and jars before putting them into the recycle bin.

I did some searching on the pizza boxes and it looks as though most places take them as long as the food/grease spots aren't bad. It was suggessted though that even if the food spots are bad to tear off that part of the box and recycle the rest. Also some places won't accept paper towels, paper plates and paper cups.

That gives me an idea, Vicki...maybe I should wipe of the excess cheese from the boxes (damp sponge) and then fold the boxes & put them inside the paper bag that I use to hold all the other paper. I feel that if I leave the pizza boxes in big pizza box form ( Laughing ) on top of my recycling bin, the guy will still remove them & put them on my trash (not checking to see if they are clean or not). Thanks for inspiring me!!
