| I think living a sustainable lifestyle is always going to be a challenge. Even for the most "green" of people.
I haven't seemed to come up with anything "new" (so-to-speak) here...perhaps if everyone could buy an organic food item each time they go food shopping? is that acceptable? is that something that everyone here already does? I know I do. At least one.
If this is any help, here's a list of foods you SHOULD be buying organic (a.k.a. the dirty dozen): 1. Strawberries 2. red & green peppers 3. spinach 4. cherries 5. peaches 6. nectarines 7. celery 8. apples 9. pears 10. grapes 11. raspberries 12. potatoes
Because they are heavily sprayed (pesticides).
Here's a list of foods that you don't neccesarily need to buy organic (a.k.a. the clean fifteen): 1. asparagus 2. avacado 3. bananas 4. blueberries 5.broccoli 6. cabbage 7. garlic 8. kiwi 9. mango 10. onions 11. papaya 12. pineapple 13. shelling peas 14. sweet corn 15. watermelon
All in season of course.
And one more note: Please buy in season!!! There are so many fruits being sold right now from Chile....not only do they use pesticides but it takes way too much energy to transport them!!
Well, hopefully I've been even a tiny bit helpful this month...
Happy eating!!! _________________

| Thanks cheapy. I didn't know this! I think I have only purchased organic on a very few ocassions as it is always so expensive. I will try however the next time I go to the store. _________________ Vicki |

| This is helpful Cheapy... I do buy organic occasionally but would like to step it up...and I really never thought about the energy involved in shipping food from so far away...it's one of those 'duh' things....I will pay more attention to the little tags on fruit and veggies and try to buy as locally as possible...my state does grow some of the most wonderful strawberries....when they are in season I will make sure I am getting those and not an out of state or country competitor _________________ Love is a fruit, in season at all times and within the reach of every hand.
