No Sissy we have had no colony collaspe .. we were lucky UNC is studying it as well as the USDA ..
we have our new hives and we pick up the bees in early March
we had a small mite problem but that was gone before winter ..

We had bees since shortly after we married my Uncle keep bees and gave us 10 hives he wanted to see if what the taste of the honey would be we added to the bees over the year and in the last for years it been a win win for us ..

we sell the honey we make candles with the wax and we do rent bees

I have to admit Gayla, I have never heard of renting bees, but it makes sense and is an additional source of income, very cool Cool

This isn't exactly home grown, but I was in need of a new facial moisturizer, I go through a lot of it in this mountain climate....I looked through shelves and shelves of it but kept finding over priced creams with artificial colors, etc. and then I found a jar of Ponds dry skin cream and even though it has a lot of ingredients I didn't find any 'junk' and can remember it from mannnnny years ago so I thought I would try it, and I love it and a little bit goes a lonnnng ways so I think it is very economical Cool

renting bees-- farms need bees to pollinate crobs .. to make thing grow- so they pay bee keepers .. every year we load up bee hives and take them to a farm ... we dont deal with many because of chemicals- there a larger organic farm in South Carolina that rents our bees
we use them for our garden we have several hives on different farms in the area by late spring
( we donate our bees to organic farm , and to farms that donate to the food bank )
