| ...with the eco-challenge?
I did well...except for one slip-up with a box of 6 pre-packaged lunch snacks. Other than that, everything was in larger sizes & doled out into portion sizes. Also, my eldest daughter started carrying a lunchbox (yes, to High School!! ) and carrying the sandwich in a reusable sandwich container. Even applesauce & pudding was bought in the large jar/box.(& put into reusable snack containers).
I totally stopped buying individual bottles of water.
everyone else stay on track? (I'm sure you were all your usual good, green, frugal selves!!) _________________

| February's eco-challenge might be a little more "challenging" for some people...! _________________

| | I need some improvement on the plastic bags area, but other than that, I think we did fairly well. |

| Instead of buying individual bags of chips I purchased 2 large bags and used little baggies which I then washed out and they reused the same one for their chips all week. I didn't purchase any snack food items. I made all my cookies and snacks and also packaged them in baggies which they used all week for that also. I did still buy water but half as much as normal so I did cut back on that. I also didn't go to the store as much so that cut down on plastic bags and I did remember to take what reusable bags I have. _________________ Vicki

| I think I did pretty good overall. I did buy a 6pk of cereal brunch bars when I went to the 'Knit & Natter', other than that it was all good.
Also, lately I tuck a folded up canvas tote-bag under my arm every time I leave my car to go into shops. I am forever refusing plastic bags and put all store's purchases into the one tote bag!
The only time I take a plastic bag is if it's an unexpected purchase but that's quite rare lately!
Plastic bags are a major 'pet-hate' of mine _________________ ~ By sowing frugality we reap liberty, a golden harvest. --Agesilaus ~ |

| I found green bags for 3 for $1.00 at the grocery store I found that I could get cheese in large packages cut it down for all the different things I do .. I found a seed exchange in a near by town the gentleman came over this week he gave me several little heirloom tomato plants and several mountain plants that grew in the mountians long ago. we took over 5 hives of bees for his garden. We joined a farm co-op that sounds like such a good idea one . All the members are organic so we should get a great cross section of vegetables ... each member list what they will grow for exchange .. this is really a great idea we found out several people want bees .. we dont mind farming out bees _________________ Gayla

| this is the first time I've read this...I can say I can't remember the last time I bought someting in a box or individual pkg!! I do get the plastic bags at Walmart, but I USE them...I actually run out of them! We use them as trash bags and we are always using themm to put the stuff in that we donate to Goodwill....keep in mind we only go shopping maybe once every 2 weeks...other than milk and we carry that...lol... Sounds like you all are doing a great job! |
