I was checking to see if anyone times showers to cut back on water consumption and reduce their water bill.I was surfin on the net and saw a item that was like a small hour glass that sticks to the shower wall.It times you at 5 minutes or 6 minutes.I dont believe I personally take long showers,,except on days I ache,,then I let the hot water hit my shoulders and neck a lil longer.
I have seem old tv shows where the kids were timed but never really heard of anyone doing so in real life.If you do,,did you see a difference on your bill?

I used to time my boys, cuz they would just get up in the morning, and run into the shower & stay "forever" Rolling Eyes I could swear that they were sleeping in there!! So I sent a kitchen timer in there with them, and that turned into a battle because they would claim to forget to turn it on, or claim not to hear it go off, etc. It was always a battle with those preteen & teenage boys. Hard to trust them sometimes with even simple,non-harmful things like that....it was a battle of wills! But SO frustrating for me!
They're better(a LITTLE) now that they are young men. One of them just gets in,& gets out. The other one takes longer & is much more self-centered when it comes to HIS shower time.
We also have just oNE bathroom, and I've tried to teach them to ask if anyone has to use the bathroom before they in for their shower, and they NEVER do, it's like they refuse, or think it's a stupid idea, when it's not....when you gotta go,you gotta go!! oy, I'm venting again! Rolling Eyes
My girls have been ok with shower lengths thus far...Thank Goodness!!!

As for water savings, I use less water than my friend/neighbor who lives in a small apt. & only has two kids. My electric bill is less than hers, too. I think she is just way more wasteful with those things...I even do LOADS and LOADS of laundry!!

In any case,I think there's nothing wrong with timing the thoughtless teen, preteen,or child....but not the adults.

We do not time showers, but my kids are pretty good about it. We have lazy morning teens who have to ruch b/c they get out of bed late! LOL...it helps during the week, but weekends they take longer.

When I was growing up we had to time our showers for a couple of reasons. Paying to heat the water was the lesser of the two. My parents' house has a septic system that would overflow during wet weather and long showers exacerbated the problem. My dad installed a timed heat lamp so that we'd turn it on to 5 minutes, the light would go off at 4 minutes and we'd know to hurry up and finish. And, yes, dad turned the water off on us if we took advantage.
I've taken quick showers most of my life so I don't time anything anymore and DH is always quick. I tend to spend a little more time now when I'm sore or really cold.

I don't exactly time my showers but I'd hazard a guess that on average they'd take approx. 5 minutes. I used to shampoo and rinse my hair twice but have learned that one good shampoo is more than adequate, then I apply a little conditioner, wash myself down, rinse my hair and body and out! The odd shower may take a little longer if I'm feeling sore and am enjoying the heat but the average is around 5 mins.
