My husband and I went to a Krogers store today and picked up some groceries,We took our own bags,,5 of them.We went to check out the food and the cashier asked how many bags did we use..we said 5,,she took 25cents off our bill.Seems to be that Krogers takes 5 cents off each bag you bring in and use!Its not a big savings but its a savings!I like that they are doing this,,maybe it will make others start to bring in their own bags too.
There is a Traders Joes store here also,,that if you bring in your own bags they enter your name in a drawing at the end of the month for 25.00 of free food.

the stores here dont and let me tell you they are act freaky about it when you bring you own bags ..

I think that's great Donna. It's encouragement, regardless of the small reward, next time bring 10 bags and save 50 cents...lol.

I called one store and they will give you .03 put you need to see management when you go in

Sheesh, Gayla, they don't make it easy for you....they do here at most stores but I have found that you have to sometimes remind the checkout persons...they either forget or just don't want to hassle with it, or sometimes they put so few items in the reusable cloth bags that you end up getting plastic bags anyway....sigh

I find the cashiers will automatically put groceries into plastic bags unless I tell them I don't want plastic and that I have brought my own bags. It does tend to slow the transaction down a bit though. I think a better set-up would go a long way!

most look at me like I grew another head .. but I take my own bags .. One young man just could grab the fact I had my own bags he put my groceries in the plastic bag in my bag.. Lol

Gayla,,I think I would speak to management at that store,,if it continued Id find another store.People like that hinders others from doing a simple thing of bringing in their own bags to just letting the store give them more plastic bags each visit.Im glad you stood your ground and still bring your own in!

My company is going green and they gave all of us reusable bags for grocery shopping. Our local stores give 5 cents a bag but my husband does most of the shopping and he always forgets to bring the bags!

None of our stores give money back and we even bought the store's own bags. I never see anyone else using their own bags.

I did speak to the manager he said they are used to people doing this so today when my Dil wen in they gave her $.05 a bag
