| I don't know if this is being done elsewhere but I have noticed that my main grocery store (King Soopers-Kroeger) has recently made heavy duty reusuable (not canvass but a very sturdy material) bags with handles available for 99 cents each - I bought 5....they hold lots of groceries and even when loaded they are easier to deal with than those pesky plastic bags... this is a first step to cut our plastic use down and figured that 99 cents was reasonable....Safeway also has these....

| Hmm...not a bad idea...I think they have bags like that at Aldi.
We use those plastic bags like crazy around here!!! I have a trash can in every room...so they go fast! LOL |

| The supermarkets in Aus. have been selling them for quite a while. They used to be mainly green (enviro?) or red. Now though..they're beginning to sell them in pinks and purples too! 99c each here also.

| Ah, glad to hear that they are elsewhere, ours have the store's logo on them so probably would just use them there but do have lots of canvass bags for other misc. shopping....

| yes, I am, as my son's girlfriend says, "one of those..." (meaning one of those people who come into the market with all their own bags!  ) I have two from Shaw's, two from Market Basket, and two from Whole Foods (I love Whole Foods...it's also where my son works), and one from Wild Oats (which just got bought out by Whole Foods, so is no more), and I use a big organic cotton one from Patagonia. I have absolutely no qualms about using a different store's bag in another store. I even use them at Walmart & Target...I am such a pain, aren't I? But I hate those darn plastic bags!!!  They are such a waste, and they don't break-down in a land-fill...they are an environmental nightmare (however, Kim, yes, I DO use them in smaller trash cans around my house...that would be called recycling!!!  ) but for the couple of times I forget my bags in the car or at home, I am saving from accumulating a ton more plastic bags by using my reusable ones. I feel a little goofy asking the cashiers sometimes (and sometimes they have NO idea what the heck I want them to do~  like have two heads or something they look at me!), but ya know? most of the time they just smile, & say "Sure!". I think more & more people are doing it, and thus they are getting more used to be asked to do it.

| I have good intentions with these. I have 3 now but dummy me always forget them at home or in the car. On occasion I remember to use them They sell for .99 here also
