I don't reuse the water bottles but dh will use 1 all day and I purchased plastic water bottles from Walmart for us all. I wash with a bleach and detergent solution.

We stopped using water bottles here, also - I find inexpensive ones in thrift stores and keep several in the frig at all times.

I have used the same one at work for quite a while. I'm sure there is something growing in it that I cant see.

What about just cleaning it out with hot water and soap, and letting it dry out?!?

We have a built in water filter and purchased plastic bottles that we wash out every night. It's cheaper than purchasing bottled water.

And Donna, you're welcome Very Happy

I just checked on Snopes (the internet watch dog) they stated while bacteria can grow in you water bottle if they aren't properly washed, there is no danger of illness due to plastic breaking down. Let's face it bacteria could grow in any container if it's not washed properly. A capful of bleach in the rinse water after washing in hot water should take care of any germs. Sometimes people get so germ-o-phobic that they can't see reality. One friend recently threw away her pillows because she saw on Operah the microscopic mites that can infest them. I asked her why she didn't just wash them and she said she never thought of it.

Teri I can't believe she threw the pillow away. We wash ours and cover them with special covers.

While people can certainly get carried away with the germ scare thing, I think another important reason to not use the disposable water bottles is for environmental concerns...
