| Anyone shop at your local farmers markets,,I used to have a list to find our local markets but have changed computers since then and have lost that list. The local newspaper had a article about how many are now going to farmers markets,,because of the tomato scare of salmonella.
I want to shop at ours but has anyone shopped before at places like these and if you did ,,did it cost more or less to buy veggies and fruits. What do you think of them,,would you go back? |

| I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my local farmer's market. I'm so glad summer is here so we can start going, again. In fact, I want to go on Saturday morning.
Some things are more costly - like blueberries and strawberries. Corn on the cob, cabbage, broccoli, carrots, squash, califlower, peppers and tomatoes are cheaper and better looking than in the supermarket.
It's not just the prices that make me go to the market - it's the smell of fresh grapes and apples and the whole atmosphere. The cut flowers are beautiful. There's just something comforting for me to be around people who work the earth and grow food. Sounds kind of crazy doesn't it? |

| They get fairly regular segments on current affair t.v. programs here and are becoming increasingly popular with families trying to save money, maybe setting up a co-op with some neighbours and bulk buying. Latest advice on saving money was to buy whatever's in season. _________________ ~ LESS IS MORE ~ |

| My local farmers market is now over an hour away. We had one here in our county but they closed it last year!! There are a few fruit and vegetable stand people set up around the county in their yards that I will occasionally pass and pick stuff up. Our church has alot of people who garden so sometimes I can just get stuff from them. _________________ Vicki

| We have a farmer's market that sets up in town, but we have not been able to shop there in two years. They mostly sell organic, heirloom (delicious) vegetables and fruit, but the prices are not affordable at all for us anymore. _________________ MARY |

| | Thats kinda why I wanted to check on Mary,,I know organics cost more in the grocery store,,thought maybe the market places would either be higher or hopefully lower..I am gonna see about making a trip to ours to compare prices. |

| I sure do hope that you find your farmer's market a good source Donna. You would love it and everything tastes so much better when it is locally grown and freshly picked. I think that some farmer's markets would have better bargains then the grocery stores, because you are not paying for the fuel to have them shipped from miles away. I have also heard that local veggies tend to be safer and that is great with all the produce recalls going on the last few years. I really long to shop at ours again, but things tend to be expensive in this town. _________________ MARY |

| We went to ours a week or so ago and I was disappointed. There were only 2 farmers set up...one had tomatoes and one had sour cherries. That was it. It wasn't cheap either. In downtown Cincinnati there is a place called Findley Market that is like a large farmers market. You can find many fruits and veggies locally grown and also homemade cheeses and jellies. Also lots of unique meats. They can be cheaper than the grocery but it is in a bad part of town so we don't go often. _________________ [url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/]

| | We went to ours on Saturday. I was very disappointed. The veggies didn't look very good. Not up to the quality I'm used to. Prices are up, naturally, as well. I'm hoping in a couple of weeks things will improve. |
