2 cups white sugar
4 cups flour
1/8 teaspoon of salt
1 cup sour milk
1 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 cup hot water
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 teaspoons soda
1 cup cocoa

Sift dry ingredients together; cream eggs, sugar and shortening together. Add sour milk (combine 1 tablespoon vinegar with enough milk to make 1 cup to sour it). Mix dry ingredients, egg mixture and milk alternately until blended. Then add hot water last. Drop onto cookie sheet and bake about 8 minutes at 350 or until done.

Filling:

3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup milk
3/4 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups confectioner's sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

On a stovetop, add flour to a saucepan. With a whisk, gradually add milk until smooth; cook and stir over a medium-high heat until thick, about 5 to 7 minutes. Remove from heat. Cover and cool (refrigerate) until completely cool. In a mixing bowl, cream shortening, sugar and vanilla. Add chilled milk mixture; beat for 7 minutes (electric mixers can be used here) or until fluffy. Spread filling on half of the cookies; top with the other half. Store in a cool, dry place.
