| How is everyone's OAMC going? Is anyone doing this currently?
My fiance and I tried over the past week to make several dishes. Last night, we ate the lasagna ... and I must say, YUM! I never thought I could cook ... and what I found out, is I just didnt like to clean up after myself afterwards. But it is getting easier with someone else in the house.
At any rate, he made: Chili Spaghetti with chicken & veggies Chicken & Dumplings Meatloaf Roasted a chicken
I made: Chicken manicotti Lasagna Chicken Bake
These are 8 meals, and we have PLENTY of left overs for the two of us. This may not last for the entire month, but it should last until at least Thanksgiving. We have decided no more recipes until we eat up the ones we have. Then, in a few weeks, after alot of research on new recipes, we'll start over again.
It has been fun - probably because we werent at home cooking all day. We did it little by little, and it is good to have something different to eat every day (even if it is rotating every week).

| PS - we have found that ground turkey is cheaper than ground beef and have been using it in the chili, lasagna, etc. You can buy a 1 lb. tube for $0.89 at SAL. It is much healthier, and it tastes pretty darn good!
I would like to make burgers out of it one of these days.

| I go in spells of cooking alot at once. A while ago I did a bunch of breakfast foods and froze them. I also do cookies, muffins, brownies, and such and freeze them also. I did a baked Chicken one night and froze the makings for a chicken pot pie and chicken and dumplings. I did a pork roast and made barbecue and froze enough for 2 meals. I did a reg roast with pot and carrots, we ate for dinner, froze some meat with gravy with roast beef sandwiches and then froze the rest all together to eat another night. Did a huge shopping trip on 10-22-06 and still using that food except for purchasing some milk, bread and bananas. _________________ Vicki

| I was just wondering how many of us do bulk cooking? I just don't have the storage space for OAMC and would probably find it a bit overwhelming to do. What does work great for me is cooking double or triple batches of some meals and keeping the extras in the freezer in microwavable containers. There are always a few reserves each week which gives me a few days off the following week When I make a fortnightly menu I just switch the nights we have those reserve meals on the 2nd week. It's been working great. I'll probably build on this if we ever get a smaller 2nd freezer. Cooking larger batches also saves energy because I use the microwave for reheating the frozen meals. | I just have the small freezer over the refrigerator, so I am not able to do bulk cooking. If I make a larger amount then what could be eaten in one meal sometimes I will package it up and freeze it. I also like to freeze cooked meat for quick and easy meals like spaghetti. If I bake muffins, banana bread etc. I usually freeze half of the amount for later. I have to be careful not to get too much in the freezer though, or frozen food comes flying out at me when I open the door causing me to have to try and catch it, or duck and run!! _________________ MARY |

| I usually make double of every meal, then freeze half. Many times I cook several dishes a night since the oven in already hot and divide the food in meal size portions. I only have to cook half the days I would. Yeah! _________________ [url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/]
