| Well, I tried another chili starter, I don't know why since both David and I like our own, but we are ever on the quest for the best darn chili . This starter, Bear Creek was $3.50 (2 for $7.00) for 6 servings and required you to add 2 cans of tomato paste, meat was optional (it contained beef broth, however, so couldn't be techincally regarded as vegeterian). I added one pound of hamburger which was $2.85 so it cost about $10.00 for 6 servings. We did like the chili, although we found the rice in it a little odd. BTW it had 2 types of beans in it which I did like. I added hot sauce to mine as I like spicy food, David liked it without any addional spices. I probibly won't bother to buy it again. I got the Cheddar Broccoli (part 2 of the 2 for $7) and will post again when I try it. |

| | My chili recipe is so simple it might not be a recipe! Chop and saute 1 large onion, 1 green pepper and 2 cloves of garlic in a little olive oil, when soft add 1 pound ground beef cook till just browned. Pour beef and vegtables into crockpot or dutch oven. Add 3 cans of beans drained (draining removes some of the salt, use kidney, white or whatever beans you like). Add 2 cans chopped tomatoes. Bring to a simmer, cook for about 1 hour or more, chili will thicken as it cooks down. Add seasoning to taste, we like chili powder, salt, pepper, jalopinos or hot sauce, (remember go light - you can add more but it's hard to take spice out!) I add grated cheese to top of each bowl and enjoy with corn chips. |
