| I love doing cakes. I always do a search on the internet to see if someone has posted ideas on the theme I want. I found thinning the icing out worked better than using it right out of the can. I also found to color the icing the paste works better. Make sure the cake is really cool. I like to make mine the night before and refrigerate it before decorating. _________________ Vicki

| | On my 3rd birthday, my grandmother made me a doll cake. She bought one of those dolls that looked like a Barbie doll, but was a lot more inexpensive. She baked a cake in a tube pan, put the doll down the center and then decorated it with the "star" decorating tip. She added fresh flowers from her garden. Oh yea, she gave the doll an "icing" top that blended into the cake to make it look like a dress. It was pink and white. I have a pic of me with it. |

| | I used to make cakes...and the best thing I found to do is make the cake and freeze it and frost it right out of the freezer...and homemade icing works better for the piping bags and tips. |

| Donna, my grandmother just used one of those tube pans that you use for angel food cake. A bundt pan would probably work just as well. The doll would fit down into the hole of the cake. I think the dollar store might have the dolls, also.
The fun part about this cake is you can dress it up anyway you want with different decorating tips. You can put little fake flowers on the dress and in her hair, add a parasol, put a big ruffle on the bottom of the dress to finish it off. The possibilities are endless. |
