| I was wondering if anyone made their own pizzas at home?
I only tried this a few weeks ago, 2nd attempt was much better than the first. I did purchase a twin pack of pizza bases for $3.50, each one is pretty large. DS eats one all on his own because he only likes pepperoni although I've added bacon bits too. DH and I share one. I've been cooking chicken on Sundays and stripping some pieces to keep for pizza topping. I've used tomato paste on the base but 2nd attempt I added garlic and a sprinkle of mixed herbs which was much better, grated mozzarella, capsicum, mushrooms, bacon bits and the chicken pieces. Small amounts of each topping sure goes a long way. This has proved very filling, quite cheap, quick to make and fun.
Does anyone make their own pizza bases/dough? I'm wondering if that would work out cheaper and/or if it'd be worth the effort involved? _________________ ~ By sowing frugality we reap liberty, a golden harvest. --Agesilaus ~ |

| I'm just thinking this would be an easy way to use up some leftovers too. Also next time I make a big batch of chili con carne, I'm going to save a little and try that on a pizza! _________________ ~ By sowing frugality we reap liberty, a golden harvest. --Agesilaus ~ |

| Chef makes homemade pizza all the time for us! It is so much better than the bought stuff and much healthier (not as much grease).
One of our favorites is to use barbeque sauce instead of pizza sauce and then put chicken or pulled pork on top with a little bit of skim milk mozzarella. Another thing to do is to use bits of steak with onions and peppers and cheese. It's a cheesesteak pizza! So yummy!
We only use whole wheat dough now too. Sometimes Chef makes his own flavoring it with a nice beer and sometimes he buys it at the grocery. The wheat dough adds some great flavor. I think it's cheaper to make your own but it's not always practical. You can freeze the dough too. |

| Thanks for the ideas DF. DH loves bbq sauce pizza but I'm not so fussed on it so since I'm making it he's happy to take what I'm making...lol. It would be way too much to have a whole one each, although DS seems to manage...teenagers! _________________ ~ By sowing frugality we reap liberty, a golden harvest. --Agesilaus ~ |

| | My husband loves little pizzas we make on english muffins. You slice open the muffin,,it now is 2 pizzas.Just top with whatever you like on your pizza and bake. Its a good way to make pizzas for picky eaters,,they can top what they like on them. Its a good family night,,set out all ingredients and let each top their own pizza. My sons and hubby will eat atleast 3-4 each! I always get a good deal on the muffins at the bread store. |

| | Like, Donna, I used to make pizzas from English muffins. We had a pizza delivered the other night. I got really sick from it. I'm not used to eating pizza, so no more for me. |

| Thanks for the reminder of homemade pizza. We love eating and making it. They are also good for breakfast. Use a white gravy as a base, add, cheese, scrambled eggs and bacon or top with sausage gravy and cheese. Yummy!!! _________________ Vicki
