| Is anyone planning for their gardens this year?
I am really excited : I got some potatoes to plant for Squiggy (and Todd and I), soybeans (we love edamame), tomatoes to try and make spaghetti sauce, basil, oregano and blackberries. I still have to get zucchini seeds, but I think I'll just pick tose up at WalMart.
I just bought some flower seeds from ebay for the front of the house. There were alot of nice plants that would flower throughout the different seasons; however, it's just too much. They are too busy looking. We like it plain and simple with some ornamentation. So, we've decided to take out the wood fence in the front yard, the bushes and everything, and start fresh with our own seeds. I bought rose of sharon seeds (multicolor), and scotch heather which is an evergreen bush with pink buds on them. These both flower from Spring to Fall, which is what we're looking for. I also want to get some lavendar, as I love the smell!
I am just waiting for the seeds, and Spring! :-)

| After a couple of years of NOT gardening, I am starting to get excited about it again, though, i am not much of a gardener!! it's all hubby! he loves to garden & always does the flowers in front of the house, he just stopped the veggies in the back because we don't get much sun & he hadn't had too much success...basically we do just get over-run with green tomatoes in September, and only a bean or two- m, don't forget the marigolds...they are a natural insect repellant & very hardy. plant a few in between your veggies plants to keep those buggies away, and in the front, they will look great through the fall...and it's Sooooo easy to harvest the tons of seeds that you get! Also, morning glories!! I LOVE them! They are soooo pretty! and incredibly easy to grow. yes, they are vine-y and need a fence or something to climb on, but they are simple, AND beautiful. Hubby & I haven't discussed what veggies we want to "tackle" yet...but your post has started me thinking about it! Thanks! and getting excited about it too. usually we're pretty lazy about getting the plants started indoors, but I think that may be the key (starting them indoors first)...just planting the seeds in the ground is always "hit or miss", and usually a "Miss" with us~ Wish us luck for a better gardening year this year~ and as always, happy growing & good luck with your baby plants to all of you!! _________________

| My veggie garden will be: tomatoes, lettuce, eggplant, peppers.
I think I'm going to plant purple salvia and nasturtium in the front and back gardens. My boss is giving me some of his peonies, which will be planted along our house. I have to get some ground cover along our driveway because we took out the grass two years ago. I'd like to get some perennials for my garden along the garage. Oh, I'd like to replace my black eyed susans with some ornamental grass. That's about it. |

| | I would love a garden also but have a small yard..Id like to find out veggies that grow early in the season and then when they die out I can replant a new batch of veggies in that space. This way we hopefully can have veggies all summer/fall from the same plot. |

| I wouldn't know where to begin but admire all those who can grow their own! Sadly I was NOT gifted with a green thumb. _________________ ~ By sowing frugality we reap liberty, a golden harvest. --Agesilaus ~ |

| I am going a little crazy with purchases for the garden this year. I have seeds for raspberries; however, it would take a full year to get any berries. SO....there was a coupon in the paper for 1-year stems. It was $5.99+$1.90 shipping for 3 stems.
We picked raspberries last year, and it was $3.00/pt. I figure if we get at least 4-5, the plants would more than pay for itself. Anything additional is just icing on the cake. Plus, they grow year after year. I look forward to freezing some, making jams, baking, and eating them with yogurt! Then, next year, we will have black raspberry & red raspberry ready to pick. I smell alot of pies in my future...
When does Spring begin?!? March 20th. NOT SOON ENOUGH!

| Todd and I saw a commercial on TV for Jack Lalane's juicer. I bought one over a year ago, and we've used it twice. We loved the juice it made, but it was so darn expensive to get everything to make the juice!
Todd mentioned an apple tree. I asked him where we would put the tree - we have almost 1/2 an acre, but there are trees everywhere! We have at least 6 trees that need to be taken down. We keep talking about it - he wants to climb up them and cut them down. I say no way. We got a quite from a well-known tree removal place, and it would cost us $15,000 to get the trees removed! So... my job right now is to try to find a company that charges alot less. Even if they leave the stumps, that is fine. We just need to get the dead trees out, and the ones that are too close to the house (for my comfort).
Then, I will get 2 apple trees and a peach tree. My friend at work has a peach tree, and he loves it! I think it'd be great to make juice with apples, peaches, blackberries and red raspberries!
Once again - when is Spring coming?!?

| Dh started the seeds in the window sill over the weekend. I can't wait for the plant to start springing up. M..we also have a tree we want to remove to plant a couple of fruit trees. My grandma had an apple tree that brings back great memories. I heard it takes 3 years to yield fruit. I want to make sure we will be in the house for more than 3 years so I can benefit from the fruit. We also have a major problem with deer in our neighborhood (we are allowed to shoot them with a bow and arrow in our yard at any time). They will have a field day with fruit trees. _________________ [url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/]

| I did some research on apple trees, and yes, it looks like it will take a while to get fruit. Some it says up to 5-7 years! Yikes! I wonder if I can find a place that has 3 year old trees that we can just plant. I will have to do some research. I'm sure they wont be cheap. I am jealous that gardens are already being started. I may have to ask hubby to go to the Akron house and get our bag of potting soil to start the tomatoes and the flowers in the window. Maybe I can do that this weekend. ~M _________________ "It is not how much money you make - it is how you spend it."
