Kitty Sushi

Directions

Tuna cat food (tinned)
thick lunch able ham
cheese (preferably cheddar)
fish shaped cat treat/sardine
a circular cookie cutter

Use cutter to cut circular pieces of ham (if the ham is thin cut several) and cheese. Put these to the side for the moment.

Place cutter on plate, fill with cat food and squish down so it takes shape. Place ham circles on top and line up- now do the same with the cheese. Leave in the fridge for 5 minutes STILL WITHIN THE SIDES OF THE CUTTER so that the jelly in the cat food solidifies into shape. Take out and gently lift off the cutter to reveal perfect shape, place cat treat/sardine on top and there you have it sushilicious KITTY SUSHI!

(if you like you could lightly melt the cheese on top by putting in microwave before putting in fridge)

Store unused portions in an airtight container and keep refrigerated. This may be fed to your cat once or twice a week.

Mixing 1 teaspoon of mineral oil with your cat's food once or twice a week will help prevent hair balls and constipation!

Purr-fect Tuna Patties

For a simple variation on this feline-favorite recipe, substitute salmon, mackerel, or whitefish for the tuna.
5 servings

2 eggs
1 6 1/2 ounce can of water-packed tuna, drained and flaked
1 small onion, peeled and finely chopped
1 cup read crumbs
1 teaspoon brewer’s yeast
1 teaspoon bone meal
Pinch salt
2 tablespoons margarine

1. In a medium-sized bowl, whip the eggs.
2. Add the tuna, onion, bread crumbs, brewer’s yeast, bone meal, and salt. Thoroughly blend with a wooden spoon until moistened.
3. In a skillet, melt the margarine over medium heat. Take small handfuls of the mixture and form 5 patties. Place the patties in the skillet. Cook each side for 3 to 5 minutes, or until golden brown.
4. Place the patties on a plate. Once they are cooled, crumble them into small pieces.

1.
Salmon Surprise

2-3oz. broiled salmon

(Use the leftover bits from salmon steaks that you have fixed for your dinner. This has no salt or butter. Just LIGHTLY brushed w/olive oil and broiled)
1/2 - 1 oz. mixed peas and carrots-cooked (use the frozen variety that have been steamed)
1 Omega fish oil capsule (This can be purchased at pet food and regular grocery stores)
Some leftover cooked grain. Such as barley, brown rice or millet.

Flake the salmon into a bowl and toss in the peas&carrots. Mix lightly, you don't want to mash it into a paste. Add the cooked grain-just enough to give it a little body. Again mix lightly. Pierce the fish oil capsule and squeeze over the mixture. Discard the flat capsule. Mix gently and serve with a small side of cat milk. This can be refrigerated but shouldn't sit for more than 1 day.

Special Dinner (good for cats with diabetes or kidney problems)

1 egg
1 tablespoon minced, cooked green beans
1 teaspoon shredded carrot (if you substitute other vegetables, avoid the ones with a lot of natural sugars)
2 tablespoons baked chicken breast (no skin) minced
1/3 Cup cooked brown rice (unrefined; wild rice is good)
1 tablespoon olive oil (good for preventing hair balls and constipation - common to diabetics)

Mix all of the ingredients thoroughly with a wooden spoon or in a blender/food processor. It's important to get the rice mixed in well so that it can't be picked out. (Diabetics need fiber and cats with kidney failure problems need to limit their protein intake so this serves two purposes.) Cook in a small Pyrex skillet over low heat, stirring and "chopping" constantly, until the egg is at least soft-set but done. Refrigerate in air-tight containers, such as Tupperware, Rubber Maid, or Zip-Lock baggies. Use within 36 hours (refrigerated). Stores well in the freezer in Zip-Lock baggies and can be thawed and warmed simultaneously in boiling water in the bag.

Stool Softener Treat

1 T. baby food vegetables and meat mixture
1/2 teas. melted butter
1/8 teas. ground phylum husks
1/8 teas. powdered or fine bran
2 T. (or more) of water

Tuna Catnip Cookies

2 t wheat germ
2 t butter, melted
1/3 c milk
1/3 c powdered milk
1/4 c all purpose flour
1 tsp. Catnip
1 6-1/2 oz can flaked tuna
1 egg, beaten
1 t molasses
1 c wheat flour
Instructions:
Mix dry ingredients. In another bowl combine milk, butter and molasses. Slowly add to dry mixture. Stir in tuna. Mix well. Spread onto greased cookie Sheet. Bake at 350 degrees or 20 minutes. When still warm, cut into bite size cookies. Cookies will be soft. Cool. Store in airtight containers in refrigerator.
Tuna-Pops (even safe for diabetic cats)

Drain liquid from tuna packed in spring water. Freeze liquid in small ice cube trays (cocktail ice cube trays work nicely, as well as little square pill boxes available at most drug stores - only fill these half full). Give no more than 2 cubes at 1 time as a treat. Reuse your can of drained tuna by placing in it an airtight container and covering with filtered water overnight for a second batch of tuna-pop water.

Tuna Treats (alternative to cat treats)

Makes approximately 60 treats:

1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup nonfat, dry, powdered milk
1/2 can tuna, in oil OR 1/2 cup cooked chicken, chopped into small pieces
1 tablespoon vegetable oil OR cod liver oil
1 egg, beaten 1/4 cup water
Catnip (Optional)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease cookie sheets with cooking spray. In large bowl, mash the tuna (or chicken) into smaller pieces. Then add flour and milk. Mix well. After all is mixed, pour in water and oil. Mix well again. Next beat egg in separate dish until egg gets a foamy texture. Add to mix. Mix well. The dough mix will be sticky, so don't worry. Using your fingers, shape dough into small bite size balls - about the size of a marble. Put balls on greased cookie sheets. Flatten balls with hand. Bake for 10 minutes. Remove treats from oven wait five minutes and turn treats over so other side will cook. Bake 10 more minutes or until golden brown in color. Place treats on cookie rack to cool. Cool for 15 minutes. NEVER give treats to your pet right after cooking. You can add the catnip in the recipe or sprinkle on top of treats. They like it either way. Store in air tight container and store in refrigerator or cool dry place.
