| Out of the blue today at work during a meeting..my boss mentioned how we need to get ideas going for a lady on 2nd shift retiring at the end of Sept. This lady is 80 yrs old.!!! She works part time ,,and then mentions ME to get with everyone and then let her know what we are going to do!
I dont really know this lady personally,,I know her family lives out of state and thats about it!Co workers mentioned they would like to go out to eat then other 1/2 says do something here at the hospital,,carry in... or catered...gift from all of us..each donate money etc....I am at a loss at this time..any ideas??????please!!!!!!
Only thing I have planned in my head is to get about half a dozen cards and take them to each unit that we go to alot and have the staff on second shift sign it for her. This way she will have several cards with 100 or so names on to always have and look back on.THATS ALL I HAVE!! LOL
Anyone thrown a retirement party,,nothing to wild or expensive but any and all help would be greatly appreciated. |

| Donna, I don't know much about retirement parties (and, WOW, still working at 80!). But, how about getting a nice photo album and taking various group photos of work colleagues (humorous if possible), then putting them into the album with messages by each photo of those people. Perhaps, as the photos are taken, you could use a notebook or pretty paper for people to write their messages on and these could be sorted and pasted in with the appropriate photos, this would make it easier than revisiting everyone for messages again. I'm sure she'd enjoy looking through that from time to time and reminiscing Also, I think, much better than a card! As to catering, I think it'd be nice just to organize something informal at work, that would probably be easiest for many, with maybe finger-food/nibblies and a few drinks/softdrinks for a toast. With regards to a gift....maybe you could chat with work colleagues who know her better and find out if she has any interests/hobbies....then after a collection you could organize something appropriate or suitable gift vouchers. Hope you find some of this helpful, it's all I could think of! _________________ ~ LESS IS MORE ~ |

| sounds like a small buffet table would be nice.. you can do simple food .. and recently I seen instead of a cake and arrangement of cupcakes. ( it's cheap too) _________________ Gayla
