| I have been thinking about learning to knit for a long time but could just never take that first step ( or stich?). But a local news station was featuring a group of knitters that was sitting at a Rockies baseball home game and amongst them was a man busily knitting and watching the game, soooo I guess its time for me I know there are lots of online sites for knitting - I am hoping to find some simple general instructions for getting started. I have a slight learning disorder that makes it hard to understand spoken directions, so I am hoping to be able to figure it out for myself by reading... _________________ Love is a fruit, in season at all times and within the reach of every hand. | spirit, this is such a wonderfully relaxing and creative craft, I think it's great that you're interested in learning. I found links to a few sites with picture instructions (as well as written). Some sites 'cast on' using one needle only and a finger which I don't think gives such a good finish. The following links show '2' needle 'cast on' which gives a much neater edge and is what I use. My aunt (who was a wonderful knitter) always told me to knit (or purl) into the back of each stitch on the 'first row only' as it gives a neater and tighter finish, so I have always done this also. I was lucky to have been taught at primary school (by nuns), I think it's much easier in a group where there are others to help you if you don't understand something and being able to actually watch how others do the task makes it much easier to comprehend and copy. If you can find a class you should join up...check out the library. I used to knit clothing items, especially for my son when he was small (I love handknit arans) but there's not much call for them in tropical Queensland! I stopped knitting for several years, especially after emigrating to Australia but I have since rediscovered 'the love' for it! I tend to knit smaller items now, such as scarves for gifts etc. Good luck, I hope you go ahead, it's very enjoyable

| Thanks, Donna and Skinflint for your feedback....those sites look good Skin- I will study them more and make up a list of beginning supplies and get them this coming week. Donna, maybe if we start at about the same time we can give each other support. I know there have been times when I wish I had something to do with my hands and use that time more effectively and this could certainly be an answer. Am excited now _________________ Love is a fruit, in season at all times and within the reach of every hand. Anyone may gather it and no limit is set. ~ Mother Teresa |
